no thanks. i'd rather just emulate my games
For a second, I almost thought this was going to be something like an April Fools joke. It's neat that it's an actual thing. At some point, they're going to need to get games like Crash Bandicoot and Ape Escape on there (Although, Ape Escape might not be feasible for this particular model since it doesn't come with controllers with joysticks)
of course the controller has no analog sticks
Bought a second hand PS2 the other day to play PS1 games for $25. Sure that will beat paying $100+ for a PS1.
was literally my first thought, they went with the original instead of the dualshock 1, meaning that even when the hackermen inevitably break into it, anything analogue based is fucked (ape escape)
Reminds me when they put Crash 2 on the PSN. There is a build of it that supports analog that came out later, and that is not the version they used.
just get a psp or a vita instead, that's even smaller form factor, boom not to mention ps3 can also play psx games no problem, price of certain games is way too high though
I mean, I do have nostalgia for 3 of those 5, but they really have bring their A-games to justify this. It's just kinda 'what the fuck', there's not even an original twist on it or anything.
I'm legitimately curious what games they'll fill out the list with, since three of the five games they've announced are already available on the store for PS3, Vita and PSTV owners. I'm sure the casual market will gobble this up anyway but if they want to do something really special then they'll include games that aren't currently on the store like Future Cop LAPD, a Tony Hawk game, Rollcage, Overboard! and Einhander, just to name a few.
Second-hand Modchiped PS2 or a hacked PSP 3000 is your best option for PS1 emulation, if you got a fat edition with USB ports I'm pretty sure you can also boot games from a USB. PS3 emulation is also very good but has some troubles with certain games unless your using one of the launch PS3's with an Emotion Engine Chip IIRC. I'll also mention PSIO which is a SD card reader that you can put on the back of a PS1 with a serial port but they sell out fast whenever new ones are made. Honestly this seems kinda underwhelming, I love the idea of a PS1 Classic but I would have also included the CD player at least considering how small and cheap they are now and maybe just make the controllers the original full sized controllers, cables and all. I'm sure an official mini PS1 that also functioned as a PS1 would sell like hotcakes.
For £100 they'd have to have all 3 Crash games and all 3 Spyro games to make it worth it, along with silent hill/dino ciris/metal gear I recently bought a PS1 from a local second hand shop and have been picking up games cheap where I can, if you're willing to wait a while and scan game shops/ebay you can usually get all the best games pretty cheap
Would be better value if it only had spyro 1 and crash 2. Its only got 20 games on it it better have a good variety.
Ohoho, pass the popcorn. This is gonna be good.
The cord is so smoll it's not even funny. It's barely a foot at absolute most from the picture (difficult to tell thanks to part of it being obscured in darkness) so you'll basically need to be standing on top of your TV to actually use it.
It doesn't look that bad but i don't really need it myself. These things would be very useful for a young child, I'd say. Happy to see Ridge Racer Type 4 getting some love.
I'm going to wait until the full list to see if it's worth it, but still it is cool to see this. Now Nintendo needs to announce the Nintendo 64 Classic for that old school console wars.
There's no way they'll be that short, that's almost certainly for aesthetic looks to have it chew up less space, can't have the cables looking messy in marketing. The SNES mini also had short cables for promotional material and on it's packaging, but they were at least thrice as long in reality.
Whenever I see these 'classic' consoles that are being made, I'm just reminded of those like knockoff video game consoles that come equipped with old, and sometimes obscure NES games. Except these are actually official. I'd honestly be more interested if they were actually capable of playing more than just the old games they come equipped with, you know, like actually capable of playing the old game discs and cartridges I have lying around. I'd pay for that, not for a glorified emulation box that's just going to get scalped.
Tekken 3 is neat since the PS1 version hasn't been re-released before but otherwise I feel kinda meh about what they've shown, especially since PS1 games are still dirt cheap physically let alone digitally. At least the SNES classic had a game that was never released at all.
If it doesn't have MGS 1, it's not worth it.
there is something so pleasant with ps1 graphics
They're terrible because they keep giving them to AtGames, and their emulation is hot garbage. The SEGA Mega Drive Mini got delayed to next year and supposely it's being develop in Japan so it sounds it's going to fix the emulation problem.
...That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this? Sony Exec Jim Ryan https://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2017/06/06/sony-still-does-not-understand-why-people-want-to-play-classic-playstation-games/#5f66eeb03890 And now they release a classic console with classic titles.
Aw, it aint the European version with icons for the power and open buttons.
Never forget PSP backwards compatibility: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaBUeINW_3s
ninety nine us dollars
I would be axcited for it if had dualshock controllers. Why they would limit us like this I don't know
This trailer doesn't impress me. It mentions like 5 games, not even some of the most popular ones like Crash 1, 2, 3 and Team Racing, Metal Gear Solid, Tony Hawk etc and it didnt' say much about the console features themselves. HDMI is cool and all, but does it have quicksave, -load, rewind and/or fast-forward? Instead we get this: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/226336/19a462ca-941f-4e4b-a2f3-e5858660cf22/psClassicMoreLikePsAssicHohoho.JPG wow its a power button guys amazing what
I could go down to the flea market and get a real working Playstation plus 5 or however many games I want for less than that.
