I remember fondly a server in the alpha days that was filled with the wonderful creations of many.
All different colors blocks to make memes, famous characters and the like.
You had to go through some length tower filled with water and sponges I think. A form of protection to the garden below - a towering labyrinth.
I didn't play much minecraft in the long run - I think I was getting too grumpy (aka older) to simply enjoy the simplicity.
man, this reminds me of some happy days a few years ago, when me and my friends never argued except for talking about dye, built dirt blocks and wondrous creations just for the sake of it. you know, those days were the best days of my life. good times
I can't play modded minecraft anymore without it being strictly progression based because so many mods just make it super fucking easy to get certain things. The vast amount of technology mods really ruins the spirit of the original game.
Ah Minecraft, simpler times gone past...
We have a vanilla minecraft server in GIP thats semi active, if you guys want to join us.
Kinda weird to hear this guy talking about that game being part of his childhood. I was 17 when I played for the first time 2011
I remember being introduced to Minecraft through Facepunch, I made a decent amount of friends through the FP Minecraft servers.
I still play modded occasionally, I've been playing since the first public version in 2009 Crazy to think it's going to be 10 years since I first played it.
Didn't expect this to be so touching, I miss the simpler times.
If we're reminiscing about minecraft, I'd just like to give a shout out to my boys who helped me build the city of Redstone Platau circa 2011, right when beta dropped. Building a town, plots for other players to move into, roads, and etc- these guys had my back. We even changed our skins to work on the town.

I miss these guys.
I remember back when Infiniminer was posted here and was played, and watching Minecraft's inception since then, following the secret friday updates that.. turned into vacations. Never really got over how it's suddenly this huge big kids product. I'm still upset at the fact I could never get back those 1-5 world slots you got given way before it had infinite terrain. Those were some of my most inspirational things.
Ah well.
Who remembers the original Open Trail Facepunch Server? I remember the neat Town system with events and stuff, almost like there was a Gamemaster. Probably the highlight of my vanilla Minecraft memories.
Nowadays, I have found that jumping into a heavily modded world gave me that same experience of not knowing how to play minecraft.
I really wish I still had saves of my original minecraft worlds to look at. I imagine it would be a huge hit of nostalgia, when I think back I still have firm memories of the structures I spent hours building and playing by.
I loved playing minecraft, and while it wasn't exactly part of my childhood like it was in this dudes video, it was definitely a part of my early teens and the hours and hours I spent fucking around with it probably contributed a lil' to the person I am before. I think it may have given me autism tbh, that or Gmod anyway.
Unfortunately I think I soured on minecraft faster than most did. I was never a fan of the infinite procedural worlds, or the focus on creative building over survival. My fondest memories were during Indev, where you'd spend hours conquering a small slice of land you could customize to your liking. The "floating islands" preset in Indev was an awesomely tense way to play.
It's actually right around this time of year that I love to play modded Minecraft for fun and to relax. There's a new modpack I'm dying to try out as soon as it gets its next update very soon. It's really therapeutic to play.
Unfortunately, even though I've had the game purchased since like 2011, back when it started to cost money, I can't play it. After the big account move thing that happened it suddenly just vanished from my account as if I never owned it, even though I did for like 8-9 years.
I've tried contacting their support about it but the said they can't help. I can prove who I am, and even told them the old email address that I used to use back then, but I don't have the original PayPal statement or anything so I can't get it back without buying it again. Sucks.
I'll never forget my first castle. Gazing out into the night across the river at a desert swarming with spiders. So many spiders. They climbed the castle. That was terrifying.
I first played minecraft in its super super early days. Before mobs were a real thing when it was only browser based and had a server browser on the website.
My minecraft account is almost 10 years old. My account is older than a lot of kids who play the game today. Its really weird to think about
I’ve still got my account. Me and my friends occasionally play different modded packs, we usually get burned out after a month and do something else until after a few weeks we find a new modpacks.
i remember starting on this “anarchy” server. It was the sort of “genre” of server where you could grief and kill as you pleased. Only thing you couldn’t do was hack. I made lots of friends, a few of which I still talk to occasionally.
its funny actually, a once or twice a week I’ll get a password reset request in my email. When the username changing update dropped, I managed to snag “Riley_” and I guess people want that account.
It's weird to see people talk about Minecraft like it's a nostalgic part of their childhoods. Makes me feel old. I was already over 20 when Minecraft started becoming popular, in my mind it's still a fairly recently released game.
I played it a bit when it was released, not really online except on private servers with a few friends. I've tried playing it later but I just can't get into it anymore. It takes a while to get started on a new world and I just don't have the patience for it anymore.
It's still a great game. It's best when you come back to it for a little bit after a long break with a friend. Toss on a nice texture pack you like, maybe add a couple shaders for shadows, nice looking water, anti aliasing, and that's it. Off you go
It's like model building/painting. Or building a Lego set. It's just cathartic
same, I remember playing minecraft on the browser. It was so bare bones but was really enjoyable
I remember not having the money for the alpha so I would play the in-browser classic version. Underwater servers with sponges everywhere, those bots you could control with chat commands, and there was even one server that was PvP somehow, with different arenas and stuff. I also remember playing the free survival prototype thing where you could shoot arrows with Q and red mushrooms would hurt you.
Oh, and the fucking floods. Those were great.
I was also thinking of it as a fairly recent game until I realized I was 17 when I first played it in 2009. Time sure flies
That was when the game was pretty much just creative mode in a smallish flat map, people would call it an Infiniminer ripoff and build giant dicks. Still, I have a lot of good memories playing survival multiplayer with friends, C418's music definitely adds some nostalgia to that
I miss playing modded minecraft with friends, good times that I wish I could relive
