• What if upkeep was no more?

So i have been thinking abbout what if upkeep was gone. I honestly dont like the feature cause it forces you to keep grinding/farming if you have a decent big base. The other reason i also dont like it is because big clans can still get giant bases that are insanly big and normal groups/solo's cant even face those. If this was a way to nerf giant bases it is not really working. If this was a way to damage casual or solo players it does. Altough it is a smart way to also get rid of bases fast i just keep thinking abbout before the update where i could make a base that would be decently big probaply a 3 by 3 with honeycombe and that would have been fine. Now that is nearly impossible especially if you have a internship from 8 to 5. What i am actually asking here is what do you guys think? should it stay or go.
"giant bases that are insanly big" ohh boy you really don't know about the past do you? Bases nowadays are 5 times smaller and less stronger than before. High quality metal? Walls of it on vanilla. There still are bases like that but now there's upkeep so you can't just spam them like you could. Extra resources? Just build more honeycombing or more high external walls. So basically "normal groups/solo's cant even face those." is dead wrong, especially if you think removing what hold groups down is gonna help you. I'm not trying to shut you down, I'm just trying to help you understand why it was implemented on the first place, which is literally to make bases smaller, and zergs of 40 people not stealing 50% of the map in one day.
Big bases are still being built and clans are not being affected by the upkeep system. Yeah they build smaller bases than before but they can upkeep a base with 3 layers of high external walls with easily. Bracket 0: 1-15 blocks at 0.1 Bracket 1: 16-50 blocks at 0.15 Bracket 2: 51-125 blocks at 0.2 Bracket 3: 126-200+ blocks at 0.333 I just checked this out and I think the upkeep variables should change a bit. Maybe it should become 0.2 on bracket 1 and 0.333 on bracket 2 and 0.5 on bracket. This should nerf clans a bit more and high walls should be looked at as well because they have zero effect on the amount of resources a base requires for upkeep.
I agree to some degree. But making it really hard for big clans to upkeep a singular base won't really help. It'll just make multiple bases even more viable as it already is
Why would FP go back to the way it was before they introduced upkeep ?. If you dont like the upkeep play on a modded server that does not have it, I do although the server does have twig, wood and stone decay.which seems to solve the problem of all the scrappy bases,
I have played back in the day and i know why they did add it but i feel this is not the best solution its just affecting smaller groups to much to defend their base.
This also was implemented due to the enormity of lag that came with those large bases. And even before when you could have over the top bases ,stability was a huge issue. Griefing and the ridiculous size and proportions made it a nightmare for server owners. This of course was before TC's were implemented which in itself is also another reason why.
My best advice to you is to join a server that is only online at times that you can play. If you work from 0800-1700, then find a server that runs from 1800-0600. They exist. And if you have specific needs, like an Australian server, or an American server, and you want it to specifically run a certain time, or offer a specific gathering rate, you can always open your own server. I think you're confusing the answer with the problem. The problem isn't that upkeep isn't working, but rather that big clans are on so often and constantly farming that they can maintain relatively large bases in a way that you cannot (likely because you play alone or in a duo, and neither of you are on 24/7). Therefore, the answer is to play on a server with people that have similar schedules to your own. You will never be able to compete with large clans. Find a server 1. near the Netherlands 2. that runs on a 12 hour circuit, 3. that only allows trios (maximum) and has a 4. 2x gather rate. The map size/max player pop doesn't matter too much.
