A bit different from the typical memory lane threads ( I hope ).
A thread were we talk about games that are just out of your reach.
Weather it be -
You don't own the system for it
The Game is long dead
Irreparable Incompatibility Issues
The means to play are not worth the cost ( i.e : It would be too costly to get the game to work )
Or something completely out of your hands ( Act of God )
Some Ground Rules However..
They cannot be games that you own or never got around to playing it.
( i.e : I have this game in my Steam library, or I have the box lying around here but I haven't gotten around to it. )
[ The only exceptions to this would be dead multiplayer / online only games, or that you don't own the proper setup / system for it. ]
They cannot be games about to come out in the future or will release in due time.
( I want to play the new Red Dead and Hitman as much as the next guy, but all in due time. )
They cannot be games that are in development or stuck in development hell.
( Yes, yes Half-Life 3 is a great gaming tragedy and a new Fallout is probably a thing, but this isn't a fringe conspiracy Bigfoot thread; Let's stick to the facts. )
That should really cover all that I wanted to cover of what this thread really is. Now lets' get nostalgic over things we don't have!
System Shock 2. I have it, but just never got around to playing it. I remember giving it a try but the controls were extremely fucked up.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay/Assault on Dark Athena
Both got removed from Steam
The elder scrolls: shadowkey
only available on the N-Gage of all things
That game's good and all, but got ratings and praise WAY higher than it probably deserved.
deadly premonition, PC version is botched and i cant get it to work, and I havent used my ps3 for years
Quake Wars: Enemy Territory. It's off the Steam, elitist/dead playerbase.
Equally, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - much like TFC, the game is just full of bots.
There have been several over the years.
Generally speaking, there are a lot of videogames I find very interesting and would love to play but that either didn't age well at all or I personally find too, shall we say, vintage for my tastes. Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Arcanum: Of Steamwork & Magika Obscura (and far too many yer olde isometric roleplaying videogames) and the Legacy of Kain series are perfect example of this.
It's also worth mentioning that there are also a lot of games I find intriguing and would love to give a try but there's one or more features about them that always keep me out of them, for better or worse. Just to name a few, I'd love to see what the fuss about Ori and the Blind Forest and Hollow Knight is about, but metroidvania games bore me out of my fucking mind. On the same note, I'd like to recover the whole Final Fantasy series, but any roleplaying videogame with a turn-based combat is a big NO NO from me and, over the years, I've become increasingly sceptical towards JRPG for a variety of reasons.
Recently, as I've brought out my Playstation 3 once gain to play the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection, I regretted that I didn't play Infamous 2 at the time of release. I somehow liked the first game, but I ended up finding the whole average american teenager comic book superhero premise to be kinda dull and I've never ever bothered. I did the same with Infamous: Second Son, althought I'm told it was one of the first true killer apps for the Playstation 4.
Star Wars Galaxies - Owned the game when I was like 8-10 years old and I didn't understand it, now it's dead because the servers were shut down (and SWGEmu doesn't feel like the "real thing")
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure HD - Was only released digitally and Capcom just removed it one day from all services without any warning or explanation. Can't get it anywhere anymore.
Uncharted series and Red Dead Redemption come to mind. Though I don't really want to play them on a console, I just wish they'd come out on PC.
I guess I might eventually get a used console, but right now it's out of the question. My TV is an old CRT and my monitors don't have HDMI input so I'd have to buy a TV as well as a console.
Gundam Versus - Owning a PS4 just for a singular multiplayer game is not worth the system and fees for online multiplayer.
there was that Scott Pilgrim game thats no longer available and i wouldnt been able to play when i came out because i never owned an XBox
And I tried to play Tribes 2 after Tribes Ascend basically died out but trying to run it was just pain in the ass I gave up
