Even many Russians massively doubt claims made by Salisbury attackers

The story spun by the two Russian suspects in the Salisbury poisoning was met with snorts of derision in the UK. But less predictable is the mockery that seemingly tall tale is getting back home in Russia.
The appearance by Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov on Kremlin-funded TV to claim that they were tourists - not hired assassins - has been widely ridiculed in Russia.
It has left some wondering about the judgement of those in charge.
Bungled attempt to impress Putin?
Gennady Gudkov had always suspected the Salisbury attack was the work of Russian agents. When the former KGB officer saw the men on TV - straight after President Vladimir Putin had called on the pair to appear and explain themselves - any lingering doubts disappeared.
Pretty funny...
Them going on TV was the worst thing they could have done to their own credibility.
It would be hilarious if this is how the public starts turning on Putin and the oligarchs.
Not going to happen any time soon...
It feels like an intentional provocation, like Russia is saying "look, we can peddle the most ridiculously obvious bullshit cover story and there's nothing you can do about it"
In my humble opinion, that's why they used Novichok - they wanted governments to know it was them but wanted the unwashed masses to doubt it. It's actually rather ingenious whilst simultaneously being stupid.
I can already smell the polonium.
The more evidence like this that comes out, the more I am inclined to believe that it was the Russians that did it. For me they dug their own grave when hailed Salisbury as any kind of tourist destination.
I massively respect people who can admit that they maybe weren't 100% right on a subject. The internet is so vast with so many voices from halcyon times. I also love your joke.
Thanks for that, dude.
Its not stupid, its Russia testing the international waters. They know it makes them look guilty, but they want to see the response. Its the same as when they fly bombers near Alaska. Russia doesn't give a shit because no one will collectively tell them to fuck off.
Facepunch has a nice way of polarizing issues where if you doubt one thing you must ultimately believe another. While I did argue rather hard, I've only ever expressed doubt to narratives that demonize other nations without evidence being brought forward.
Evidence has been brought forward which these guys, at least to me, have cemented in reality. Historical evidence just wasn't enough for me to jump on the bandwagon and call for sanctions or retaliation without a line of proof being presented.
I do appreciate your words though.
This is a classic Russian ploy. It's made blatantly obvious so as to send a message to your enemies and you don't have to worry about the consequences because you're above the law and no real investigation will take place. This is the same thing that happened when critics and journalists were killed and when Russian forces invade Ukraine and support separatist movements there.
The radiation's coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE.
As far as foreigners are aware, the only thing nice about Salisbury is it's Steaks.
