I hope WB doesn't fuck this one up. A standalone Joker film has a lot of potential if done right.
The makeup feels a bit off, but Phoenix is one hell of an actor, so maybe this'll work.
He looks more like a joker henchman.
Is WB just incapable of using a design that looks like him
I actually really like this design.
Apparently they're doing Elseworlds, so this is a non-canon anthology and the different just to be different look is intentional due to the subject matter. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of using that banner for what I've heard is supposed to be an origin film.
I didn't even realise this was actually based on the DC comics "Joker" until just now. Thought it was just another indie type film with Joaquin Phoenix. Genuinely excited af now for this
I really doubt that's Joker's main design, he looks like he's trying to make people laugh and failing, it's almost certainly from his failed stint as a comedian.
Looks cool, i'd go see it on the big screen if there wasn't a 15 minute continuous barrage of advertisements before the movie starts.
I take it that's a pre-Joker look when he's a failed comedian and not his psychopathic look. Of course, that depends on the direction they are taking this film; will it be a more traditional, bleached skin Joker (and essentially an adaptation of The Killing Joke flashbacks), or The Dark Knight Joker where he's just wearing make-up?
One of the Joker's shticks throughout a lot of the universe was that he was never actually funny no matter what he did, and in the Arkham Knight game they sort of broke that rule by making him actually kind of funny.
Please give skin-bleached Joker something good, as much as I love Nicholson we could use something new. And Jared Leto made me fucking weep with how bad it was.
That's the best part. Nobody cares if you talk so my friends and I just roast the trailers
Honestly though this really does seem legitimately interesting, it seems to have a bit of a cerebral low fi existential feel which is nice.
Idk why but it looks like a younger Kurt Russell as the Joker.
i like the idea that he became genuinely funny once he completely snapped
There's a version with some extra stuff floating around https://youtu.be/UJlxI9xXLXk
I'm confused, what happened to Jared Leto?
This is a stand-alone "elseworlds" reboot apparently.
The immediate thought that went in my head was Saul Goodman, for some reason.
The music starts very similarly to the Better Call Saul theme.
The Joker had a few notably funny moments. Like at the end of Arkham City at the final boss fight when he says to Batman "what's the matter Batman, it's not like you've got a girl to save anymore...too soon?" or this when the mobster grabs him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVy9DFwT-4o actually, I think it really depends on your sense of humor. I think he's funny because his jokes suck and they're corny. It also depends on who is writing him because it's Paul Dini's interpretations of him that are my favorite
I think that he is probably the funniest when he is temporarily not in a position to be an evil monster and is given the opportunity for side chatter and commentary, with the whole too soon thing being definitely one of those. In arkham knight it was funny when he expressed his excitement for things such as about experiencing "one of eddie's contrived death gauntlets", or when they experienced an ambush and he pretended to get mowed down by it.
fuuuuuck i need to watch this movie. That artstyle.
