>With security sources continuing to warn of an unprecedented threat, the first aid courses will focus on wounds caused by bombings, shootings and knife attacks.
>Defence minister Tobias Ellwood, who attempted to save the life of the police officer killed in last year’s Westminster attack, this week called for members of the public to “step forward” during incidents.
>“Our message is very clear – people need to be safe before they take any other action.”
The training has been under development for several years, and follows similar teaching given to 11 to 16-year-olds in schools across the UK as part of the ACT for Youth programme.
You know what, it's sad that we need it, but it's an excellent idea. We should have been doing this years ago. All round I'm really happy with this decision.
It doesn't go into details on how it will be given or who will be giving it, but as states in the article it will most likely be given in schools and other groups.
While coving the topic is a good idea, it should not supplant first aid skills that deal with far more common injuries and illnesses.
I believe this will be an extension of the current first aid, so effectively this would be adding "how to treat serious wounds"

We've kinda always needed it, while it's easy to think that these are dangerous times, we're actually safer from attacks than before. We don't have mortar attacks on downing street by the IRA, airplane bombs like the Lockerbie disaster, I can go on.
True enough, for now at least.
We don't, at least not to the extent that you need to even name terrorism as a factor. It should just be an extension of first aid training, since terrorist attacks are fairly negligible in the west, despite all the scaremongering done.
