Theresa May's team draw up contingency plans for November electi..
British Prime Minister Theresa May's aides have begun contingency planning for a snap election in November
to save both Brexit and her job, the Sunday Times reported. The newspaper said that two senior
members of May's Downing Street political team began "wargaming" an
autumn vote to win public backing for a new plan, after her Brexit
proposals were criticised at a summit in Salzburg last week.
Just like Brexit, if the first vote doesn't succeed, try again. Then be hypocritical about it.
Seems more like a way to get labour in power to take responsibility for all the shit that happens post-brexit.
You'll think so, but the Tories are so terrified of Corbyn they don't want him in power for even a minute. They legitimately think this will help them.
Genuinely? The fucking shit we get from certain users and brexiteers of "you can't just vote and vote again until you get what you want" and then to enforce a mandate this would be May's SECOND snap election?
The hypocrisy physically hurts
They already did this last year, And these hypocritical morons are going started abused this rule every time they loss their argument.
May is a traitorous bitch
At this point I'd root for either UKIP or Labor
Is this abuse of power? I feel like in some small way this is abuse of power.
Because it worked oh so well the last time.
Why exactly can the Prime Minister do this? What's the precedent for giving them this power?
This isn’t even set in stone. Not defending May, but it is merely a contingency plan after all. Probably every parliamentary government ever with the ability to call early elections would always have contingencies in place regarding snap elections. That’s just risk management and good governance.
Also I believe such a snap election would be more about the Conservatives cutting their losses (eg they might narrowly win a snap, but lose the next regular election), as opposed to the merits of their Brexit proposal.
Here's an idea: hold another Brexit referendum instead.
Whatever you do don't vote UKIP, their entire platform is "this should suck even more."
so you'd root for the people she's desperately trying to please or the people that won't destroy your country? because this mess is equal parts UKIP's fault especially since they basically dissolved when they got their referendum result and farage went on a world tour instead of having to deal with the actual effects of isolating 2/3rds of the british isles from the EU

Honestly, if we're having another vote it should be a referendum on the deal - the country has already given it's verdict on it's trust in May's government and the appearance of the magic money tree to keep her in power was a sign of how well that went.
I'm worried that Labour will never in be in power again in my life. It's sort of a populace problem, we're just trained to mindlessly vote Conservative with no thought. The only Labour PMs we've had in my lifetime are Blair and Brown i.e actually just Tories but in the Labour party.
We live in a world where the president of the USA went on live TV and made up a fake massacre that didn't happen called the Bowling Green massacre, and you're going "oh yeah, I forgot about that!" because it's fairly low on the list of insane things that happened in the past 2 years. The point is: politicians have realised there's no repercussions, and everything is insane. We will never hold the Tories responsible for their actions, and nothing will change.
Truth be told, besides trying to convince people of my perspective and voting for what I want, I don't see any solutions. Any advice would be appreciated, this sounds a lot like defeatism, but I don't want it to be that way.
Votekick: Theresa May?
(Reason: vote spamming)
I'm hoping that we'll get another young voter turn-out like last time and have her little scheme backfire again.
It isn't a bad plan, she is already getting praise from both sides and the press for standing up to the EU, and that will be the message going into the election because if the EU continue down this path of non-negotiation it won't end well.
Nobody here believes a fucking word you post from your deluded fantasy world just fyi.
i swear to fuck you view world politics like a EU4 game.
lol who is threatening us
quit being an mass of hypocrite British otherkin man
I mean resigning would be less damaging to her party so I suppose a dual suicide of her career and her party for a generation isn't a bad plan if it stops brexit.
Pretty sure this would back fire won't it? The last snap election had people calling for her resignation.
well either loosing is so inconcievable they ignore it or that's the entire plan and she can easily walk away shrugging and saying "well its not my fault"
Technically she can't do this, Parliament will have to vote to dissolve itself and call an early election. That'll definitely happen at some point though, there's no way this Parliament is lasting until 2022
Remember when "Strong and Stable" was this government's rallying cry? What a wonderful joke
Honestly I would prefer people voted UKIP than the Tories.
The only difference I see between the two parties- is that the Tories could actually end up winning. I'd much prefer it if people split the right wing vote backing a doomed party of extra racist ex Tories than actually helping to re-elect the real thing.
ah fuck man why you gotta curse this page
Im actually interested to see what labour can do, as long as Corbyn doesnt turn into a massive disaster. But then again I dont know if it can get much worse than May.
oh boilrig you're such a funny goof haha, now go back to play with your toys the adults need to discuss boring political stuff
...yes, you can have some cookies after supper but no staying up past 9 okay? you have preschool tomorrow
