This is a pretty great purchase considering Pandora invented storing music permanently on a device, which changed music forever, for only 5 bux a month.

This is just how corporations work and have always worked.
Neither Sirius or Pandora are particularly large (as far as large corporations go) or particularly good, maybe they can use this as an opportunity to provide a better service with their combined licensing.
This happens and always happened naturally in every industrial sector as time progresses.

don't count on it, i worked for siriusxm for a few years. they're terrible.
PSA: never cancel your siriusXM subscription and keep your radio in a faraday cage for 6-12 months or else they might not be able to send the "terminate service" signal
side note, its curious noones done much reverse engineering on their protocol
Their signal is total shit anyway, most stations are so compressed they sound like they were played through 2 cans on a string.
