"People are willing to pay premium price for premium device" There you have it, all the justification you need to avert your buyer remorse.
64% profit margin. What the fuck. I have iPhone 7 and I'm mad they removed the FM tuner.
Because they can get away with it. There just is no excuse whatsoever.
I'm mad that a lot of developers are outright removing the feature. Kinda makes me wanna get an older phone just to have it.
The more important step though is to convince them it's a premium product. Apple mastered this bit tbh.
I think it has more to do with payment plans and the idea that more expensive=better. Someone sees they can get a $700 phone for $35/month or a $1000 phone for $40 a month. They might think for only 5 bucks more a month, I'm getting a much better phone.
The iPhone Xs Max 512Gt is the ultimate "don't get this phone, seriously" according to its price here: Apple iPhone Xs Max 512 Gt ‐puhelin, kulta, MT582 – iPhone Xs Ma.. 1678,90€ Holy goddamn fucking SHIT!
the new iphone still doesnt have a 1080p screen
Actually the Plus phones have 1080p displays, the XS Max has a 2688x1242 resolution. And not all phones need 600 ppi screens, pixel density has diminishing returns on a device that fits into your hand.
There's no point in taking resolution higher if the pixel density of the display is in the neighborhood of the most your eyes can discern at a typical distance. At that point you should only increase resolution if you're also increasing the dimensions of the screen. Otherwise you waste processing power and battery life for what, bragging rights? You'd be lying if you told me you could see an obvious difference in clarity between a 4k display at 800ppi and a 1080p display at 400ppi
Yet you can buy an unlocked Android phone for a fraction of the price that can do everything you need it to and then some. The iPhone is a status symbol.
Samsung S8+ has been the best investment I've ever had in a phone. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to update in years because it fulfills all my needs in aesthetics, usability, a speed. New phones have reached a point of diminishing returns and iPhones have proven that even further. They have a disgusting amount of money sitting in their banks and refuse to invest in new technology. It might honestly result in their demise given Amazon is making huge moves in the technology sphere.
It's where the majority of their money goes. Marketing, primarily reinforcing marketing directed at people who buy their products already. Apple has turned their brand into a status symbol by convincing customers they have a premium product, hence why there's iPhone cases with cutouts to display the logo.
I despise the "status" side of things. Get a merc because it has status. Get an iphone because it has status. Yet, you're still probably a dolt.
i'm honestly surprised iphones are still even popular. everyone i know has bought an android and would never buy and apple phone ever again. not trying to sound like an android fanboy but i believe you get more for your money with the latest samsung rather than buying the latest iphone.
I find it funny that after the Note 9 being shown the first time, Apple's stocks went up and everyone said the Note 9 didn't do too well making not that many changes from the Note 8. Come the new iPhones, and they're almost a rehash from the iPhone X. I have a bigger problem with the XR though. 750 dollars for THAT? WHY? What kind of idiot even thinks thats good?
Don't be mad at the company, be mad at the customers letting it happend, there are plenty of other smartphones on the market, it's not like they are sitting on a monopoly. But it's a fashion thing, people buy it for the brandname, not the products features.
It's simply supply and demand. The iPhone is this expensive because it's the optimal point where supply and demand meet in the most profitable way for this product.
Honestly I think my biggest pet peeve with Apple is that this method is pushed so hard that most people I know with iPhones are not using them as status symbols. They've simply been told their wholes lives that this is the good phone. This has the best everything yadda yadda. This is kind of weird but like, when people ask me in passing what my opinion of iPhones are (or how to fix one) and like I have to, on the spot, come up with some Rick Sanchez, "school isn't for smart people" conspiracy-dork type retort. Does that make sense? Like a friend will be like, "Hey I keep running out of storage, what should I do?" and I'll reply with, "You buy a new one. Because the solution is just get a new card, but you cant just get a new card because then you wouldn't need to buy a new phone. This planned obsolescence, honey. They want to you to struggle with memory so you'll think you need something you shouldn't have to." And then the friend ends up just buying an X because the idea of doing research on phones and switching platforms is, and no judgement here honestly, completely out of their world. But they know buying that new X will get them "the best" experience. I remember once when I was in an especially bummy phase in life, I had spent a year not having a proper mobile. I had decided that I was going to have a cool phone again, but without breaking the bank. Went to Amazon and clicked sort by feature: 6 inch screen. I have never got more compliments on a piece of tech, and I have never had to convince more rich people that my phone was literally $100 and not at all nicer than their brand new iPhones (or not in they way thought). I kept using it as a platform to show that you can get phones with whatever features you desire for any price, as long as you ask for it.
How does it feel to get conned by a dead man
People are fucking dumb that's why, so many just buy them because Apple products.
64% is high, but at the same time I'm wondering what that margin would look like if you factored in marketing costs, shipping, labor costs for engineers working on the iPhone, and other logistics. Of course in order to make it fair you'd have to throw in any additional profits Apple would make off iPhone owners. Not to imply it justifies the margin at all, but I doubt Apple truly makes $641.50 off each iPhone. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it were higher.
Except its not, because people here buy iphones even if it they're working minimum wage. It's still treated as such though, to the point that in some circles (particularly the ones that are filled with the prettiest and most vapid people), getting a green message (android) from a friend or potential date is a cue to immediately start cracking jokes. And thus people buy Iphones even if they can't afford them, so they aren't automatically seen as second-class, and the cycle repeats itself. Apple literally has our fucking country by the balls.
