It's been too long. Our wait is finally over. Stuart shall now suffer for the good of our people.
By the title I thought they were going to sodastream the Surströmming juice. But I guess by that point it becomes a filthy frank throwback.
For those on FP who have had Surströmming, can you please attest to the smell? I feel like YouTubers really play it up for entertainment value. I'm American but have a taste for canned seafood, I don't know why but it's delicious to me and I've always wanted to try Surströmming. I'll probably go ahead and order a can anyway, but want to know if I'll need to bring it to a large open field to eat it.
I love the regret you can see in Ashen's face in the thumbnail of the video.

one time a judge said this exact thing so they opened a can of it across the room in court.
he no longer had any doubts.
My uncle who is a hardened Finnish military special ops soldier did a projectile vomit when he opened a can of the stuff earlier this summer. It really smells that bad.
I am really glad we haven't popularized smellovision yet.
I really want to try carbonated Capri-Sun now
This is extremely tangential to the whole thing, but are there seriously flights from Somerset to Norwich? I can't imagine flying such a short distance.
I'm used to the smell so it doesn't bother me at all. Opening it outside is a good idea though, or inside a plastic bag so it doesn't spray juices on any surfaces.
When eating, eat it with onions and potatoes., and if it isn't pre-filleted then you need to remove stuff like the spine, tail and shit
You'll definitely want to do it outside, both opening the can and preparing it.. When I ate it we did it outside, it's just safer that way. The juices and leftovers (aside from the can) is best dumped in a ditch somewhere rather than the bin.
The waving and exclaiming is a bit exaggerated, but aside from that I'd say this video is a somewhat reasonable reaction from someone new to surströmming, and their description of the smell is honestly quite spot-on. Various kinds of pickled, salted or otherwise preserved seafoods are common in Sweden, but suströmming is something else entirely. I find the smell somewhat reminiscent of "rhino farts" in homebrewing (I.E when unhappy yeast produces hydrogen sulfide), albeit more pungent, protein-y and intense.
Thank you for the tips! I definitely don't want to deal with de-boning it if the odor is that strong. I had no idea there were de-boned variants, now I know what to look for. Thanks again.
Glad to be of help, let us know how it goes

I think this is the first time i've seen a youtuber eat it properly.
See this is the type of stuff I subscribed for him for. It sucked when his only videos became monthly lootcrates and blindbags
I ate Hakarl on friday, icelandic fermented shark, it tasted like how aquariums smell.
I'm really surprised to see this for once, I think he's just missing the potaters on it but he even got the sour cream and dill for it, kudos.
This aside I think Ashen's content has overall gotten better recently
