I believe it would be fairly useful to be able to configure what kind of alerts you receive on the top-left part of the page. Configuration could be done from your Facepunch account preferences as that page seems somewhat barren at the moment anyway.
Users would then be able to configure the kind of alerts they receive in several domains by simply enabling and disabling them:
Your post was rated
Someone quoted/replied to your post
Someone replied in your thread
Someone replied to a thread you recently posted in
Someone replied to a thread you recently visited
You leveled up
You earned a coin by being active
And any more combinations of the above. Essentially by enabling and disabling the above alert types, users can choose how involved they want to be in the community by either limiting the amount/type of alerts they receive or opening up new alert types to be shown.
In my opinion, the user should be given control over what information they receive. Best thing a dev can do for a user is to give them options.
I'm still scratching my head over why ratings notification was removed.
cut down on data most likely.
There's better ways that it could be handled, I think it had negative effects on server times
Maybe but I don't think Garry ever said anything regarding it. It's just speculation. If it was the case, making it opt-in or even a buyable feature (like 30 coins or something) could solve that issue.
Considering that the alerts pane is capped at only ever showing the most recent 30 alerts no matter how many you have, there's (very annoying) precedent to Scratch's claim.
Again, we don't even know if that's working as intended or just a holdover from development. It's Garry, we just don't know because he won't tell. He literally removed the roadmap and stopped giving changelogs for updates.
