People have different ways of grieving. The death of a parent is an extreme event, people don't always react in the ways you might expect.

This isn't the kind of grieving that would be considered normal, this is very much emotionally/mentally unhealthy. She still needs to talk with a psychiatrist or a therapist (and her remaining family) to help her through bereavement.

Shock and grief go way farther than you might imagine, actually. They're unbelievably powerful.
They might bring out underlying issues or vulnerabilities or the shock may have created one, one way or another by strict psychological standards her behavior goes beyon what would be expected of a mentally healthy person. The rest is just semantics.

Freaking cigarette addiction (or any addiction) and depression are literally considered a mental illnesses by the standards of psychology, yet normally people wouldn't casually call a depressed person or cigarette smoker "mentally ill". Just because it might be understandable under the circumstances for her to have acted this way and empathize with her trauma, it's disingenuous to shy away from the observation that her actions have gone beyond what a mentally healthy person would have done. No fucking sane person would have done what she did, she obviously needs psychological help.
