Christ I could never get into oblivion. The game always felt unstable, like it was melting in my hands
I clicked on this video thinking "Oh I might as well rewatch his TES series again", and it turns out it's actually a new one. A welcome surprise.
Sad to hear man, Oblivion was pretty much the bulk of my early teen years, i dumped literal thousands of hours into it and it stands as one of my most played games of all time by a wide margin. It's far from perfect, but damn if i still don't go back to it every so often even now.
I still don't understand how people like these games. But hey that's probably just me.
I have plenty of complaints about Bethesda's games, especially the more recent ones, but they're still some of the best games ever made IMO. And Oblivion is comfy af.
Nostalgia perhaps? Coming up from Morrowind and loading Oblivion for the first time was fucking magical. Unpatched, vanilla Oblivion had everything you wanted in an RPG at the time. Of course now you have to mod the shit out of it to play it for 10 minutes.. We are truly spoiled.
Like even modded I can't escape the feeling that it's running with popsicles and twine. He highlights one of the bigger issues (the weird chargen or how if you try to make a black character they'll have green lips) but I could never escape the feeling that it just feels... chunky. This is a problem in all of bethesdas games I have played, but has gotten considerably better over time.Maybe it's because I like fallout more, but I never got the feeling that Fallout 3 would randomly come to a screeching halt. Until it actually does, I mean. Or I install over 1000 mods to it. Huh...
Oblivion's visuals have aged like a bowl of clam chowder someone forgot about for a month. I still remember all the previews in magazines that praised how good it looked and how it'd blow everything out of the water and look good for years.
Regardless I love the game. It introduced me to the world of Bethesda gaming. It has it's flaws but if I want to play an Elder Scrolls game then Oblivion is my go to.
This right here. I grew up on Oblivion and San Andreas.
Found the main thread for LGR for you OP, take a peak and don't mind the smell (thats the smell of epicness!) C:\>LGR (Lazy Game Reviews)
I'm pretty sure it's the smell of socks and wood panelling.
I would categorize LGR into the Archivist Nerd area. He observes every game in relation to every other game he's played. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. He sees behind the facade which is a position of power. But does he use this power other than to fuel his cynicism?
LGR is firmly among the less cynical youtube critics Except when it comes to Sims stuff packs
