• Ammunition Diversity Query

I would like to ask: is the Rust development team at all working on more diverse ammunition options, and if not, have any of the devs. brought up the idea of such a change? When I say "diversify ammunition", I"m referencing the fact that most- scratch that- ALL rifles use the same type of ammo: 5.56. Now, this fact doesn't bother most players, who are just kids and 20-somethings that don't care much for smaller-such details. I'm sure I'll get a few "go play Arma" comments. And I myself am just a casual 18 year old Rust player, too. But, aside from that, I am an avid gun-owner and consumer. Today, someone in a Shadowfrax video's comment section brought up a really good point, which is how 'every single gun uses 5.56, it seems'. After a mere 10 minutes of research, one can find that the devs. purposefully based the Assault Rifle, M249, and LR on real life 5.56 firearms. Now, I could guess all day why the devs. made this choice, but I would rather ask them. Is this a permanent design choice, or was this a temporary choice to keep the game a little more straight forward? I feel like a great opportunity was missed to separate the tiers of weapons even further by adding in different ammunition (for example, basing the Assault Rifle off of the AK-47 instead of the AK-101). So, I would like to offer a suggestion that would make me quite happy, and I think would make an extra, much needed divider for players in lower, middle and higher tiers: replace the Python's ammunition with two types. A. .357 standard B. .357 hollow point (higher damage on armored opponents) 2. replace the m249 with the m240, a 7.62 NATO round LMG, also used by the United States (it seems to be a trend you guys are sticking with for the manufactured weapons). Obviously it should remain impossible to research, but a player would be able to research one of the bullets found within the weapon. It would be cool if these bullets were tracers, but that's too much to ask. 3. for the upcoming LN96, I think it would be cool if y'all chose to go with the .338 lapua round. This way it justifies a separate round from the m240, and also justifies the 8x scope supposedly coming with the new weapon (because .338 rounds are preferred by Scout Snipers as the range is longer due to cartridge size, the knock-down power is due to projectile size, and the arc isn't so drastic due to a combination of the two) . As with the m240, this round would also be research-able, but only with a standard round available. I can accept the fact that there are two different 5.56 variant automatic rifles (although the cartridge for a Kalashnikov 5.56 is a different length from an American 5.56 ;0), but I severely dislike the current machine gun using 5.56, and cannot stomach the idea of a 5.56 AWP (which I don't expect, as the team seems to have been trying to remain realistic with the rifle rounds).
I doubt very much that FP will introduce more ammunition types as there are suffiecient types now to satisfy the majority of players.
I don't want more ammunition types to research, so disagree.
There are 15. That is hardly sufficient. So, just to be clear, you both want and expect the L96 and the M39 to fire 5.56? I can guarantee the L96 WILL come with a 7.62 NATO round at the very least. The M39, assuming Facepunch stays true to their previous trend of accurately incorporating the real-world rifle's ammunition type, should use 7.62. Since it's a semi-automatic, it may be treated as the little brother of the L96 and given the same round (assuming the L96 uses 7.62 and not the .338), thereby putting them in the same tier of manufactured weapons. (Sort of in the way that the semi is the little brother of the bolty).
This game has absolutely nothing to do with the real-world, so don't compare Rust and real life please. Looks like i'm not getting any 7.62 NATO rounds, i have ask Russia for some 7.62 rounds and Sweden for a brand new AT4 rocket launcher.
I disagree. Not only have they based vehicles, like the Bradley, directly on real-world vehicles, but they have also closely followed weaponry to their RW counterparts. Facepunch based the Assault Rifle off of the look and ammunition of an AK-101. The LR is a replicate, in name, appearance, and function, to the real-life LR. Same with the M249. The upcoming L96 and M39 are both real-world firearms. Based on past trends, the new weapons should require new ammunition. In a few instance, Facepunch was pretty generous in giving the Python the ability to fire pistol bullets instead of the proper extended cartridge .357 rounds. I don't really know what you're trying to say about the 7.62 rounds, and I'm confused by your AT4 comment. Not sure how that's relevant. NATO simply refers to the "standard" cartridge size for all NATO countries. For example, Russia has a 7.62 round for their AK-47, except the cartridge (shell casing) is much shorter than the 7.62 NATO (American) round. While the projectiles would fit in each-other's barrels, the cartridges would not fit into the other's magazines nor their chambers. Therefore, they cannot be fired, except from their designated firearms.
I don't buy your "guarantee". Scrap grind is already an ass to deal with, especially with small groups and solos so if I need to farm 1k scrap for a god damn bullet type for sniper I'm just not even going to. Why? Because the L96 and M34 aren't even going to be craftable, so why waste scrap that can be made into components? And that's how most players think, at least those who use scrap well, literally making the ammo type unused and a royalty item, for when you're too rich to even bother. Worse: It will have bigger gp costs due to upgrades: Aight no one uses it unless it's a huge upgrade... You want it in game? Fine, add it...
So you agree with my earlier point. Please refer back to my very first comment, where I say that these new weapons will provide an extra barrier between mid-tier and high-tier players. That's exactly what I hope happens. I don't expect anyone aside for 1-4 people per wipe to be able to effectively use the L96, considering how overpowered it will be. I hope it is a very rare weapon, only available to the most hardcore players. And just because you won't farm, doesn't mean someone else won't. I think the hype will lead to wars over the L96. Do I think Rust is perfect? Not by a long shot. Does the scrap grind blow donkey dick? Of course. But I think you are vastly overestimating how expensive the new tier bullets will be to craft. I would guess 7.62 will be 15 metal frag, 10 GP. And, if they actually make the 8.6mm round, I would estimate 20 metal frags, 20 gp. Considering it would be a one hit kill for most players, I don't think that's asking too much even 30 metal frags/30 gp would be a worthwhile cost. The real challenge will be actually getting your hands on the firearm, and thereby one of the 10 bullets in its magazine. Though, I think you have a good point about scrap costs. At this point, acquiring scrap to research stuff is becoming more and more stressful, since we have a limited amount of time to actually acquire scrap before the server wipes. I would guess that once the L96 is added into the game, we will only see it in the hands of large clans, but even then, they'll only let one or two people learn the BP, and it will become the ultimate roof-camping gun. Hopefully people don't overdue it to the point of nerfing. Of course, these "specifics" are all my own hypothesis and suggestions for Facepunch. I'm more inclined to guess that the L96 and M39 will both be 7.62, and unfortunately, the Machine gun will remain a M249 (5.56NATO).
Hardly suffiecient for what ?, How many more do you need ?, You already know about the new weapons in the pipeline but are still not satisfied, Well I am that and dont need one thanks. That you cannot do. The weapon will have the ammo assigned to it by the devs.
You act like 15 different ammo types is a vast amount, and every single player ought to be satisfied. Well, Im not, and based on the responses in the comment section on youtube, plenty of others aren't either. I'm glad you've nominated yourself to speak for all "hardcore players". Actually, I think it's pretty funny you;d label yourself as such. I was obviously being ironically prophetic, because I want to be able to come back to this thread and be able to say, "Ha. I called it." Because, according to past trends, more likely than not there will be at least one new tier 3 ammunition with the release of the L96. Now, you can call me arrogant, or short-sighted, self-indulgent, but I just wanted to talk about the possibility of a new ammo type and what that would mean for combat. Now, though, I really want to prove you fuckers wrong.
I did not say I spoke for ALL hardcore players I said I spoke for myself and if you want to compare hours in game just post a screenshot of yours, I have approx 16700+ hours so far,
Compare hours!? You definitely dont speak for any hardcore player in the game. You just speak for the ones who stay afk in game all day long and shove the hours in other´s faces as a proof of their unmeasurable experience in the game.
That is what I said and I play the game for 8 to 10 hours a day and have done so since 2014 , Any time you want to join the server i play on you are welcome to see how i play, The server is Pal-Ul-don and it is modded, I dont know what your definition of hardcore is but I can guess its belonging to a large clan and playing for 2 hours a day on an official server.
