I’m gonna say this will be patched out in the next driver release.
I'm curious if Nvidia panicked about the "slap a Radeon in your other PCIe port" Freesync exploit. Large tech outlets and YouTubers like LinusTechTips covered it and basically exposed that Nvidia's cards not working with Freesync is an entirely artificial limitation.
I really hope this is official, as someone with a 1080 and a Freesync monitor. They need to make serious improvements to Gsync to make it an actual improvement upon Freesync, one worthy of spending the extra money on.
I just enabled Freesync in my monitor's OSD and it didn't throw a fit. I'm downloading AMD's old windmill demo now to see if it really works. I'll post an update.
just tried on my LG freesync monitor
it's just dead with freesync
Should probably point this out
Update 9/30/18 3:22 AM: After further research and the collection of more high-speed camera footage from our G-Sync displays, I believe the tear-free gameplay we're experiencing on our FreeSync displays in combination with GeForces is a consequence of Windows 10's Desktop Window Manager adding some form of Vsync to the proceedings when games are in borderless windowed mode, rather than any form of VESA Adapative-Sync being engaged with our GeForce cards. Pending a response from Nvidia as to just what we're experiencing, I'd warn against drawing any conclusions from our observations at this time and sincerely apologize for any misleading conclusions we've presented in our original article. The original piece continues below for posterity.
They wouldn't realize because at the end of the day - they know.
lol yeah, the benefit of playing games windowed/borderless is they go under the windows desktop, and most applications get no screen tearing (ms hackery, decent frame logic), but at the cost of increased input lag.
Some exceptions I find to this, and I'm unsure exactly how, I can get 71 FPS on Sea of Thieves, for a 60hz monitor and really noticeable tearing. All UWP games run from the desktop, there's no exclusive fullscreen option here
DX12 games also don't use the old school exclusive fullscreen mode, there's something better now that has the best of both worlds: For best performance, use DXGI flip model – DirectX Developer Bl.. I don't know if this applies to all UWP games as well or just DX12.
thanks for the read
