I love this series and can't wait for SCVI, so I decided to make an official thread. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/fr/f/fb/SoulCalibur_Logo.png -WHAT IS THE SOUL SERIES? The "Soul Series" as it's called, is fighting game series created by Bandai Namco. Soul Calibur features a unique 8-way run system that allows players to move fluidly in 3D space compared to traditional fighting games. Combat is weapons-based with each fighter using unique weapons such as swords, spears, etc. The series is set in a fantasy version of the 16th century and tells of the never-ending battle between the holy sword, Soul Calibur, and its evil counterpart, Soul Edge. The character's stories often involve them chasing after one or both of the swords for their own reasons. -INSTALLMENTS SOUL EDGE/SOUL BLADE (1996 on Sony PlayStation) https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/4/49/Soul_Blade_NA_PS1_Boxart.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161005235150 The prequel to the Soul Series. The mechanics of this game are slightly different from the rest of the series-there's no 8-way run and players can lose their weapons. Super moves called "Brave Edge" can be used, but do not return to the series until SCV. All the characters are chasing after Soul Edge, with most not yet knowing that it is a demonic sword. SOUL CALIBUR (1998 on Sega Dreamcast) https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/5/51/Soulcalibur.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/256?cb=20080404202435 The first game to feature the series' trademark 8-way run. Many of the series' most iconic characters are established, including Nightmare, Kilik, Yoshimitsu, and Ivy. Fun fact: This game was moved to the Sega Dreamcast because the original PlayStation could not handle the animation of Ivy's whip sword. SOUL CALIBUR II (2002 on Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo Gamecube, and Microsoft Xbox) (AKA, "The one with Link in it") https://i0.wp.com/www.replaygames.us/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/soul-calibur-ii-cover-1.png?fit=1280%2C609 An entry point for many fans, this installment featured guest characters from other games, a tradition that would continue into future installments. Each console had a different guest character-PS2 featured Heihachi from the Tekken series, Gamecube had Link from the Legend of Zelda series, and Xbox had Spawn from the Todd McFarlane comics. Another major highlight was the Weapons Master Mode, a robust separate story with some RPG elements, including branching paths and a leveling system. An HD version with online play was released in 2013. SOUL CALIBUR III (2005, Sony PlayStation 2) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/51/ScIIIbox.jpg In a departure from the previous game, SCII was released exclusively for the PS2. This was the first game in the series to feature a Character Creation mode, where players could create their own custom characters, a feature that would continue to be a highlight of the series. This installment also featured a mode called Chronicles of the Sword, which blended the core fighting game mechanics with real-time strategy gameplay. SOUL CALIBUR IV (2008, Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360) (AKA the one with Star Wars in it for some reason?) https://solarspot.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/sc4boxart2.jpg In a move straight out of left field, SCIV featured guest characters from the Star Wars franchise, with Darth Vader on the PS3 version and Yoda on the Xbox 360, and Starkiller from the then upcoming "Force Unleashed" game available on both. Yoda and Darth Vader later became DLC for the consoles they did not ship with. SCIV featured a new Critical Finish mechanic that allowed players to instantly end a round with a cinematic finishing move, as well as an Armor Break system that caused parts of a character's armor and/or clothing to fall off after taking high damage attacks. This is the first game in the series to feature online play. SOUL CALIBUR V (2012 on Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360) (AKA the one where all your favorite characters are gone and their replacements are kinda lame also Patrokolos is a dick why the fuck is he the main character) https://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/301011-soulcalibur-v-playstation-3-front-cover.jpg This game was originally not going to happen; but fans and the Project Soul team begged Bandai Namco to make it possible, and what we got was...okay, but definitely lacking. Taking place 17 years after SCIV, this installment featured new, younger characters replacing several series regulars, with some other ones not being present for unexplained reasons. The featured guest character is Ezio Auditore from the "Assassin's Creed" series. The game did kinda poorly, and for a long time it was considered the final game in the series...until... SOUL CALIBUR VI (2018 on PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, PC via Steam) https://cdn.images.dailystar.co.uk/dynamic/184/photos/262000/620x/Soul-Calibur-6-Release-Date-News-TWO-major-characters-leaked-in-latest-gameplay-reveal-678432.jpg?r=5bae4e7b7d4d7 The latest installment in the Soul Series, coming out on October 19th of this year. For the first time, Soul Calibur will be playable on PC, available on Steam. Storywise, this is a reboot/retelling taking place during the original SC and SCII. Other characters not from this time period in the story, and possibly other guest characters may be available as DLC later. This game's guest character is Geralt of Rivia from the "Witcher" series. -SPIN-OFFS SOUL CALIBUR: LEGENDS (2007 on Nintendo Wii) https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51KZkJIaDcL.jpg Looking to profit off the popularity of the Wii, and because SCIV wouldn't work on the platform, Nintendo fans got this instead. This a hack-and-slash featuring motion controls and story-wise takes place between SC and SCII. This game has been declared non-canon with the series proper. Gameplay was incredibly boring and repetitive, and the motion controls didn't always work properly. However it featured a decent story following Sigfried Von Schtauffen after he acquires Soul Edge, as he assists the Holy Roman Empire in its war against the Ottoman Empire. Lloyd Irving from "Tales of Symphonia" is a playable guest character. SOUL CALIBUR: BROKEN DESTINY (2009 on PlayStation Portable) https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/soulcalibur/images/1/13/137610e-1-.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090729222723 Essentially a port of SCVI for the ill-fated PSP, this game featured Kratos from the "God of War" series as a guest character. SOUL CALIBUR: LOST SWORDS (2014 on PlayStation 3) https://media.playstation.com/is/image/SCEA/soulcalibur-lost-swords-listing-thumb-01-ps3-us-05sep14?$Icon$ Essentially a Free-to-Play version of SCV, but with some fan favorite characters like Sophitia and Amy brought back. SOUL CALIBUR: UNBREAKABLE SOUL (Apple iOS, 2014) https://i.ytimg.com/vi/OHaE1gBjOds/maxresdefault.jpg A trading card game based on SCI. SOUL CALIBUR PACHISLOT (2007 for Arcades in Japan) (AKA this is how we celebrate the series 20th anniversary?!) https://i.ytimg.com/vi/HXo-HJ8pw_4/maxresdefault.jpg A Pachislot (cross between Pachinko and Slot Machine) based on the Soul Series. Created to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary. A lot of fans were pretty pissed about this. At least the game's soundtrack (Featuring remixes of several favorite tracks from throughout the series) was pretty good. -CHARACTERS CERVANTES DE LEON The series' original antagonist, the owner of Soul Edge during the events of SCI. An undead pirate wielding a pair of swords, one of which has a pistol embedded in the hilt. HWANG Korean hero who uses a one-handed sword. Sought Soul Edge as a means to protect his homeland. LI LONG Chinese character that uses Nunchaku with blades at the ends. MITSURUGI Samurai who uses a Katana. ALGOL The ancient king who originally created Soul Edge and Soul Calibur and final boss of SCIV. Uses magic that utilizes the power of both the spirit swords. LORD GEO DAMPIERRE A con artist who uses a pair of punching daggers hidden up his sleeves. Also has the funniest moveset in the series, hands down. Perfect as a troll fighter. HILDEGARD VON KRONE Fully armored queen of the fictional nation of Wolfkrone. Uses a spear and short sword. The first female character in the series to not wear revealing clothing. ELYSIUM As Inferno is the spirit of Soul Edge, Elysium is the spirit of Soul Calibur incarnate. Disguises itself as Sophitia. Mimics female movesets only. Final boss of SCV. AZWEL New antagonist for SCVI. A sorcerer who summons weapons similarly to Algol. GRØH New Norwegian character using a double-sided sword.
I lost it at Xiba. Thanks for the laugh, pardner. Also:
There's really no other way to describe Zwei's sword other then "Three Handed Sword". He uses the regular grip as well as both sides of the cross gaurd as grips. That makes three places to hold his sword, ergo, "Three Handed Sword".
Ivy is always that lovely gal to be with.
Always with Tailm will i get more ring outs than actual victories, half of which might very well be myself.
The network test has been very fun, and now I can't decide if I like Nightmare or Siegfried more, which hasn't happened since they were separated into two different characters. I always preferred the style of Nightmare in SCII and then Siegfried from SCIII onwards, but now they are both great in SCVI.
Could be worse. You could be one of those Cervantes players that only ever picks walled stages so they can spam Geo De Ray repeatedly without flying off the edge.
I might say that Cervantes players may be a little... (lame pun incoming) edgy...
A little bit of bad news... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkH5GRmBS0U I assume that more parts will become available through DLC. More of a reason to order the season pass to get everything.
I have pre-ordered the game. Does that count?
Only if you got the digital deluxe version, which includes the season pass. I assume the Season Pass will be available to others who got the standard version later. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/544750/extras/SCVI_DE_Art_New.png?t=1535577986
I'm sad that Lizardman/Aeon hasn't been announced yet. I hope he isn't one of the DLC characters.
well going off these tournament videos, there's only 2 slots left for launch characters, so it's not over yet (cause yeah he was my favorite character as well back in the SC2 days) As usual, tho, there apparently was a leak awhile back that predicted the name of Azwel and every other recently revealed character months before Azwel was even revealed. if you really want to spoil it, ~supposedly~ the two remaining characters are Hwang and Lizardman.
Oh, I did. By the way... There's a thought I've been pondering in my head. A thought regarding the future past of Soul Calibur V. I've been wondering... If Sophitia were still alive during all that time Patroklos was growing up... He could have been Patroklos proper humility... And Patroklos would have been an actually nice guy! Not that I hate Patroklos or anything. But I don't like him either. I'm just... asympathetic towards him. He's good fighter, but not a good person. Also, that baker dude. Patroklos' father and Sophitia's wife. Where he was at when Patroklos growing up?!
He's the creators favorite character. I'd be surprised if he wasn't in the game.
At this point I assume Lizardman will appear purely as a custom character using Sophitia's moveset since Lizardman is a race preset. It somewhat makes sense since at the time Lizardman was just a Sophitia clone back then.
One of my favorite thigns with Algol was his throne teleport move, because it could be spammed, and you oculd stand up and do a kick. Against short reach chracters, it could be used to hillarious effect. I once use dit online against antoher Algol player, we had a FOOLISH time. 6 is looking like it's going to be good. Can't wait for it to come out, the character creator is going ot eat so much time.
Already preordered deluxe and am hype as heck. I’ll be maining my favorite underage big boy, Nasty Asty, and my favorite of age lady, Sophitia. I’ll probably try to pick up Maxi and Tira, as Tira was always an interesting character and I had a ton of fun dicking around trying to learn Maxi in the network test. Lastly, can’t wait for CAS to churn out some big tiddy lizardmen.
Does Geralt ever actually use his silver sword in any of his moves?
He does, it's uses a blue trail when he swings it instead of orange.
Huh, I'll need to look more closely then. I thought his silver sword just always stayed sheathed on his back.
His name is Rothion.
More characters may be revealed this weekend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytejxc_Zo9A
My current hopes for Soul Calibur VI: https://i.imgur.com/uu8r8er.png
Hah, we were baited by CAS allowing you to make a lizardman that we didn't even consider the Lizardman!
Man at Arms made Soul Calibur and Soul Edge! (Don't ask me why they put Cloud and Raiden in the thumbnail...) https://youtu.be/DOHtafKiLgQ
As much as i love using standard Lizardman you bet your sweet ass i'll be making one with Nightmare's moveset
My Steam Account got stolen. And with this game only a couple days away from releasing. Fuck.
Am i crazy enough to buy me a Gamecube style controller for the PC version of 6?
You could just get this and use your old GCN controllers:  http://a.co/d/ikWZ6gG
