A 24-year-old man from Pooraka has had his car impounded after being caught doing a reckless burnout on a section of Adelaide's new north-south motorway just minutes after it was officially opened to public traffic.
Police said a Holden sedan had broken down on the motorway at Ridleyton just before 12:30pm on Saturday when road workers stopped in the area to assist the driver.
But when the sedan drove off, the man decided to conduct a long burnout on the recently opened section of the busy motorway.
The Torrens to Torrens upgrade of South Road was only opened to public traffic on Saturday and is estimated to shave about eight minutes from the average peak-hour journey.
In footage of the incident which was released by police on Sunday, the car can be seen cutting off traffic in two lanes before speeding off along the motorway.

Typical it'd be a Holden driver, lul.

Fuck yeah, he's keeping the spirit of Smokey alive
What a mad cunt
That's as good a way to inaugurate as any other. Shame he got caught though.
I can't feel too bad. It's a public road, not track day.
I don't feel bad for the guy getting caught, but I don't think anyone was in any serious danger. Really piss-poor decision on his part, definitely shouldn't have done it, but he did a damn good job of countersteeering and keeping the car from oversteering too much. I can dig the stupidity and subsequent punishment. I'm shaking my head but grinning at the same time.
Fucken send it dude, those were some killer skids.
its ok he's just taking his american drivers ed + citizenship test, sorry he somehow ended up in Australia but thats how these things go sometimes
