I love these trucks. If I had room at my house I'd have one, there's always one or two for sale around here 'cuz of all the preppers. And they're dirt cheap. I saw a running one with automatic tire inflation and all that fun stuff for $4500.
All this video made me do was want one even more. There's usually a handful for sale within a 200 mile radius, and I feel like I could road trip in one of these all day if I had a big bluetooth speaker on it.
Yeah, they're cheap but I imagine they're a costly undertaking to retrofit them to make them actually road safe and practical. It would be a really cool project, specially to learn how to work on them.
Really interesting. I've driven a 1970s M151 MUTT (albeit, briefly) and it shares the same light lock-out system. I've been told it's so that if you're driving in a blacked-out convoy at night there's absolutely no way you can accidentally bump the light switch and give your position away by turning them on. The hi/lo beam switch on the floor strikes me as weird, though apparently it's the same in the HMMWV and other vehicls.
the hi/lo on the floor was really common in american cars, particularly GM, up until maybe the 80's
