I've made a SteamCmd server (for Trouble in Terrorist Town) and I've had it for quite some time now and everything was working fine but the other day when I tried playing with my friends we couldn't join the server. I've opened the ports and everything that needs to be done. I've changed nothing apart from adding addons but from one day to another the server wasn't joinable anymore. What happened and what can I do?
we cant really give you any solution based on your informations given, because there is no informationg given. We can only guess.
some addon broke something
something else changed (which, again, he cant do much more because we have no informations)
Well is there any information that could be relevant for solving this?
what addons did you loaded up? not all of them, but from the moment it worked until the moment it didnt, what addons have been added

That's the collection I'm using (I know that you didn't ask for every add-on but I thought It would be more easy to explain now). So I'm sure that after I added the three ULX addons (above Goldenplix prison) it all worked fine downwards from that are mostly add-ons for TTTC. Hopefully that helped!
So I removed one addon at a time and looked if I could join the server but unfortunately it didnt change anything. I only can join with the network IP which sounds like a port problem to me. No idea what to do from now on.
If you can join, whats the problem then?
What do you mean by network ip?
Are you running a server locally on your pc?
You need to forward these ports, also if you don't have a static IP-Adress you need to get one.
Given that I'm not the best with servers I'll explain what I know: I have the SteamCmd installed on my Pc. When I start it it gives a "Network IP" and a "Public IP". I could join using both IPs but my friends have to use the "Public IP". From that can you further explain "forwarding" the ports? Also what can I do to get a static IP-Adress. Sorry for my lack of knowledge!
Try googling dyndns, thats something that should work for small stuff!
You need to open the ports in your internal firewall, also in your router in order to have people join ur server.
gmod uses 27015 udp I think.
If nothing works, you can use stuff like hamachi to be in a virtual local network. It should be good if it‘s just your friends joining.
If you want to run a real server, you should rent a public one. Begins at 10$ I think. (VPS)
Yeah that's the weird thing I have opened the ports but my friends still couldn't join. I'll try dyndns and hamachi out tomorrow and I'll let you know if it worked or not.
So I looked it up and it seems to be too complicated for my purpose. Not that it is too hard to set up but I dont think it (Hamachi) would not be optimal for what I'm trying to do. I was looking for a fix because the Server couldn't be joined even though I opened all the ports. Maybe there is a solution to that and I'll leave the thread open but my optimism for solving this problem has almost left me. Thank you all for helping!
You should go for a cheap server then. There are gmod servers slot based that are very cheap aswell.
It's online without your pc and also can bought by paysafecard most of the time, if you're not 18 yet.
Good suggestion but I want a server for me and my friends only so I dont intend on paying for one (the reason I did one myself). On ipchicken I get the same IP adress as in the console for the server. Sadly not working. What a weird problem...
.....why dont you just start a game inside gmod and enable peer to peer..?
It is kinda lame but I prefer the options that you can do in the Server.cfg to the options in Garry's mod itself
