https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/newsbeat-45672370/forza-horizon-more-games-should-be-set-in-the-uk I do wish more games were set in the UK, i'm bored of America. No offence muricans.
Lol, the guy's got subtitles for the people that can understand him.
i think its for people just browsing it on phones
Yeah I was thinking about that after I made the post, makes sense in that case really.
I was holding out hope that Telltale would make an episodic series based on Nobbleberry but that dream is now dead
In general, more games should be set in (modern-day) Europe. We haven't had a proper open world action game like that since Getaway: Black Monday. Maybe Just Cause 3, but even that setting is very fictional.
Still holding out hope for a modern GTA London at some point.
That'd be great, but there aren't that many areas of the UK that'd suit it. Canary Wharf is one of the few areas of Britain with sufficient density of pretty, tall buildings that'd suit a non birds-eye view perspective GTA game. I think some low-key crime thriller would work excellently here though. I honestly think British crime thrillers tend to be more interesting and moody than American shows on the same subject, although I love both. Something like Taggart or Broadchurch adapted to be more action oriented could work rather well.
Well there are hints that the next Watch Dogs game will be set there, so there is that at least.
Why are tall buildings a requirement? The majority of the GTA V map is suburbs, countryside and hick towns.
That's true, but I just think the UK has less geographical variety than America does generally, hence thinking Scotland could be a good place to set it.
I would love to play a fucking British Crime Game. That'd be cool as fuck. And hell, Resistance Fall of Man is one of my favorite FPS' from the last generation.
More games should set in anywhere but the States.
only reason why i even know anything about america is because of all the games that are set there
I'd be cool with more games set in the US if we didn't have a thousand AAA titles set in real american cities or fictionnal american cities GTA style. I need some new landscapes though cmon. If games are gonna just scan the real world and use it as gameplay space (which they often do now especialy for their height map, and photogrametry), vary it up a bit.
I'll always advocate for more games set in the UK just because I have a weird preference for UK accents, slang and aesthetic. We Happy Few got half of my attention thanks to the fact that it had a UK aesthetic on top of the lucid high dream artstyle. Slightly off-topic, but what's the consensus of Horizon 4? Been thinking of getting it.
more games set in Australia too it's fucken gr8
Just bring back Dave Jones and set it in Dundee. I can already hear the council screaming bloody murder at the thought.
Less States, and also less generic Middle Eastern sandy war zones. Mercenaries 1 felt pretty different for the time as well being set in North Korea. Sleeping Dogs was a good, interesting and unique take on the traditional sandbox formula being set in Hong Kong. The Getaway games were a good taste of an open world crime drama set in the UK. Just Cause gave a good idea of what it'd be like to have a huge sandbox in Latin America, a tropical Asian region and a European setting. It's a shame only the Assassin's Creed games so far have been the most diverse in their game settings, and not to mention games taking place in modern times or at least the modern era between the 60s-90s taking place anywhere else other than the US are very far and between. Some of the walking sections in Max Payne 3 even demonstrated how cool it would be to have a modern sandbox set in Brazil.
every game should be set in slough
self important americans ruin everything
To be fair it's pretty logical that a lot of games are set in the US when much of game industry is american studios with mostly american employees, mostly targetting the american market.
First thing i noticed in this game is how wide they made the roads
See this is something I never understood. Why is it Americans are apparently incapable of accepting anything outside their borders in media? I always see people say "Well it has to be in America because it's for Americans" as though Americans don't want to see stories set around the world. "If Bob Johnson sees a story that isn't exactly comparable to his daily life his head will literally explode."
I said earlier in the thread that i'm tired of american landscapes as well. But I understand why it's been the case. People make things that they resonate with, with their cultural references and bias, and it's true for every country. There happens to be a lot of american devs and a lot of american gamers. Just shows you how important diversity in creative industries is to fresh experiences.
I need to hear that specific London street accent in my vidya
I have absolutely never once in my life heard the argument that a game has to be set in America for it to be appealing to Americans. Were all those WW2 Call of Duty games set in the USA? How about Metro 2033? The Witcher? Wolfenstein? STALKER? What are you even talking about man?
I'll die happy if we got something as respectful and detailed as GTA IV set in London. We have so much potential it's sad.
I'm not saying that's the case. I'm saying there are a lot of people in the entertainment industries who believe that. Which is why Hollywood loves to remake foreign films but set them in America and make all the characters American.
Hollywood is making movies for America, thats why. Same reason why Bollywood has adapted movies and set them in India.
