Ugh, I would buy X-Com 2, but it's absolutely bullshit that they haven't lowered the prices of the base game, even though the expansion pack is basically required as well if you want to play a fully functional game..
I will give you that they haven't lowered the base price, but they've both been on sale so many times since release.
Using deal found on Cheapshark, you can get both base game and wotc for a combined $45, or pay $50 for the complete pack and get those and all 4 dlc.

XCOM 2 isn't a Paradox game. Base game is fully functional, the expansion just adds more stuff to sweeten the experience.
End-game is still kind of boring though, but that's part of XCOM's power curve.
Are you sure about that? Because I could have sworn that Wrath Of the Chosen made significant changes to the game engine that, among other things, reduced the load times considerably.
War of the Chosen (apparently) makes the game run smoother, yes. Load times shouldn't be too bad in the base game unless you add a huge amount of mods to it.
Just note that WotC will not save you in load times if you end up running this many cosmetic mods

My 3tb harddrive loaded to the brim with games contains 400,000 files. My Xcom 2 folder contains 200,000 of those. Would it have killed them to archive their loose files so loading could be more sequential and thereby faster on mechanical harddisks? It's just so incompetent when you think about it! There are tens of thousands of sub 1KB files that just takes a fucking months for the needle to seek and load one by fucking one.

This thread really makes me want to buy War of the Chosen
War of the chosen is imo even better than enemy within. The chosen showing up can really make oh fuck moments that require thinking on your feet. Especially when they have hard counters and weaknesses.
