The house on Dreamhill Drive was a nightmare waiting to happen.
Outside, a minivan rigged with steel animal traps blocked the driveway. Near the home, a gate was booby-trapped to send a circular hot tub rolling toward anyone who opened it, like the boulder that bore down on Indiana Jones in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Neither trap ensnared the bomb experts who visited the home in southwest Oregon last month, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. But the team ran into trouble inside, where someone nudged a wheelchair, triggering a loud explosion that sent shotgun pellets flying.
Some Home Alone type shit
think we can get willem dafoe on the movie version?
Mr. Rodvelt, 67, had been arrested in Arizona in 2017 and charged with unlawful possession of explosives, but he was released in August after he was ordered by a judge to surrender the Oregon house, according to the affidavit.
Later that month, a lawyer assigned to clean and sell the house arrived to find a sign outside that warned: This property is protected by improvised devices.
At the lawyer’s request, the F.B.I. bomb expert and three state bomb technicians arrived to inspect the house around 9 a.m. on Sept. 7, when they found the minivan and the hot tub, as well as a rat trap in the garage, according to the affidavit. The rat trap was not set, but had it been, it would have discharged a shotgun shell when the garage door opened.
Jesus, how dumb do you have to be to think this would solve anything.
Taking Home Alone a bit too far.
Reminds me of that engineer that booby trapped his entire house so intricately in the hopes that when he died his ex-wife would trigger them, that he accidentally killed himself on one of his own traps. His were very devious and definitely would've killed someone if he hadn't fallen to it.
Belgian pensioner killed by his own booby
Why are they called "booby traps" anyway. Aren't they simply traps?

The Spanish word bobo translates to "stupid, daft, naïve, simple, fool, idiot, clown, funny man, one who is easily cheated" and similar pejorative terms. The slang of bobo, bubie, translates to "dunce". Variations of this word exist in other languages (such as Latin), with their meaning being "to stammer".[1] Thus, the term "booby trap" gives rise to the idea that an individual with the misfortune to be caught in the trap does so because the individual is a "booby", or that an individual who is caught in the trap thereby becomes a "booby".
In approximately 1590, the word began appearing in the English language as booby, meaning "stupid person, slow bird".
The phrase booby trap originally applied to schoolboy pranks, but took on its more sinister connotation during World War I.
