Multiplayer tab in options menu not showing up; cannot join multiplayer servers.

I just reinstalled gmod after a long while.
When I open the options, it does not show a multiplayer tab. The available tabs are "Keyboard, Mouse, Audio, Video, Voice, Other".
I can play singleplayer.
When I try to join a multiplayer game, it will supposedly download workshop maps (they somehow dont appear in the addons menu though) and then get stuck on "sending client info" forever. I suspect that this is linked to the missing options tab.

I currently have TF2, Portal 2 and Gmod installed, but I could install all orange box games. Garrys Mod lists TF2 and Portal and I can spawn items from the respective games.

I have verified game cache, disabled steam cloud, reset the settings using the supplied batch script, and also manually deleted the "garrysmod" folder, always followed up by verifying the files, but none of that helped.
Interestingly enough, my tf2 spray has always been set in garrys mod by default. I thought gmod was standalone now?

Is there anything I had to do post install? I did restart my computer, although gmod didnt install any drivers or services so it should not be necessary to restart.

The Mutliplayer tab was renamed to Other in Options (You could've figured this one out yourself, if you'd just click on the Other tab), and it has no effect on any part of the game.

As for getting stuck on "sending client info", just wait, it is download Lua files from the server.
