I hear war drums, but I hope I'm just hearing things.
why not renounce the 1943 Tehran conference while we're at it.
And call the Ayatollah a poopy-head.
don't give them any ideas please
Whelp, it's not gay unless balls touch.
Isn't Iran (or at least its younger generations) going through a cultural upheaval as people try to shed some of its fundamentalist roots? It seems that as the old guard die off they'll be gradually replaced with a more liberal school of thought but this looks like a great measure to alienate the current generations.
Perhaps they'll be less fundamentalist but living under the sanctions and having their country crippled by them could still drive anti-Western sentiment (or at least anti-US).
It depends.some are still anti-US but others just dont give a damn anymore and just want their economy uncrippled.
Of course if the US declares war on them that will fly out the window.
It's not enough to simply defeat a country or collapse it into regime change. It doesn't really matter if a country is a liberal democracy or a fundamentalist autocracy - you have to befriend it and integrate it into the world system, otherwise it will continue to simply be your enemy of a slightly different flavour, like the USSR and the Russian Federation. Direct intervention while trying to impose such behaviour doesn't work either (Iraq, Afghanistan).
The only way to properly defeat enemies is to make them want to be your friend because it makes their lives better.
