Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun! After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Warsuniverse. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
Dave Filoni is directing the first episode, directors also involved are Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Taika Waititi
I feel like at wherever Star Wars Ideas are headquartered there was a big case that displayed "INCASE OF HYPE DEPLETION BREAK GLASS" with a bunch of Mandalorian fanwank behind it
Honestly though, if it's actually a little "gritty" as much as I dislike that terms overuse, and not Rogue One gritty, I'll probably give it a go
I mean, I like the idea but seeing the way the last few star wars things went I think its gonna bomb
Yeah I'm cautiously optimistic with all of the good names attached to the project.
Dave Filoni and the animated series where great when they took the cuffs off.
How about waiting until it actually airs before predicting.
Or there's even any content whatsoever. I mean, it's got Jon Faverau, Dave Filoni, and Taika Waititi working on it for god's sake.
I really hope they don't fuck this up. I just want a good space western.
They just started filming this week, so we probably won't see much more for a few months.
maybe this idea was how kathleen saved her job as head of star wars at disney
Taika Waititi
This is a good sign at least, even if it is only a few good episodes directed by him. I could see something along the lines of Thor: Ragnarok work well for Star Wars if it had a little bit more restraint on the humor. Especially so with the setting being the lawless edges of the galaxy.
The criminal underworld in SW is crying out for a good series, hope it's good.
idk I feel like there's such a thing as too many star wars movies. I lost interest in Marvel movies right around avengers. They just feel so cheap to me
Rogue One was gritty?
That photo does look great and the general idea could turn out alright depending on how serious it is overall so i'll give it a try, but the post-ROTJ setting is something that so far hasn't been interesting at all to me.
Fringes of the galaxy far away from the law?
Star wars space western?
Please?
ooh heaven forbid people have some negative thoughts about star wars, eh tuskin? im sure you wouldn't have said a word if he praised it to the high heavens. can't be critical of star wars today can we. after all, people who dislike it are right-wing russian troll bot extremists
Can't help but being pessimistic due to the shitload of Star Wars projects that were released over the past few years.
why the fuck are you always personally attacking Tuskin? it's unnessecary and just downright rude.
This is going to be on their Disney streaming service, right? I feel like the barrier to success or failure for it might hinge more on if they can convince people to pony up for another subscription a month or not rather than the actual quality.
dont be such a child
But the TV content for Star Wars have often held up really damn well and have been fan-favorites for a long time.
At this point I'm even willing to bet they're far less divisive than the films have been.
Good thing this isn’t a movie
I'm always excited for anything star wars, but I really miss the time when all those great games came out back in the day. Nowadays it's new shows and movies
The mid season/end of season twist is that the "mandalorian" is gonna be boba fett isnt it?
I doubt it.
if it was boba fett there'd be no logical reason to hide it like that
It's Disney we're talking about though.
only Fett related twist I can see making any sense is finding out he's still out there somewhere and maybe being an antagonist or rival down the line, but that's also unlikely
Not sure what they had to do with anything. They don't decide the story beats.
In the Star Wars legends, Boba Fett lives a massive, happy life after being eaten by the Sarlacc because of his Mandalorian armor. There is plenty of Boba Fett related material post Battle of Endor. I know legends isn't considered cannon but they can easily make some bullshit excuse why everyone's favorite OG Trilogy villain is alive and make more merch off him.
