"A few women who identified themselves as sexual assault survivors approached Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah on Thursday and asked why he’s backing Kavanaugh. Hatch waved and told them to “grow up” as he entered an elevator surrounded by aides. As the women yelled at him from the hallway, Hatch smiled and waved."
Yea the GOP can all go rot in hell at this point.
The guy's an 80 year old Mormon, don't think he's the best on women in general
On the hot seat, some senators have been using police escorts in recent
days to shield them from protesters and the media. The stepped-up police
presence comes as senators — especially Republicans — have expressed
unease over protesters who have confronted them at their Senate offices,
restaurants, airports and even their homes. Personal information about
some lawmakers also has been released online.
Gee, it's almost as if you're doing something monumentally fucktarded and blatantly against the interests of the 320 million people who pay your fucking salaries...
I can't wait for Kavanaugh to get elected in so I can lose even more of the little remaining faith I have in this country. Though it's nice to see how many people are protesting against the guy, I just don't expect a happy ending anytime soon.
Note that Clarence Thomas was pretty damn popular and his confirmation drove women to vote in 92, Kav is the least popular since the Saturday Night Massacre executor Robert Bork and the ridiculously
unqualified Harriet Miers.
they don't need their salaries
they've got their legal corporate bribe money
Hah, you're using BBcodes about 3 months after they disappeared.
Hatch telling sexual assault survivors to 'grow up' is just fucking disgusting, but I really shouldn't be surprised, what with this administration.
Even forgoing the sexual assault claims, the way he behaved at the nomination hearing was beyond the pale for a federal judge. I honestly don't see how anyone who isn't a raging ideologue could approve of his appointment.
Would've been great to see the decrepit shitstain Hatch drug out of that elevator to face the people he hurts.
Welcome to today's Republican party. Openly sexist, openly racist, openly fascist, and corrupt to the very core.
Gee. It's almost like he had the perfect opportunity to wholeheartedly support a full proper FBI investigation and to give the FBI everything they would need to prove his innocence. Which he decided not to take for some reason. I wonder why that could be.
In that scenario, I would voluntarily want that FBI investigation to occur so that my name would be cleared.
The fact that all the Republicans went so far out of their way to protect the guy and obstruct the investigation... The fact that they anticipated these accusations and tried to do damage control long before the first accuser even came forward, all that points to his guilt.
They don't have to have been there at the time to help cover it up, only that they need to know he did it and want to hide that fact so they can force him onto a bench he has no right to be on.
It's a good thing you're not a judge beholden to the Federal Judge Code of Conduct then.

So let's focus on 2A.
A judge must expect to be the subject of constant public scrutiny and accept freely and willingly restrictions that might be viewed as burdensome by the ordinary citizen.
What sorts of restrictions, you ask?
Impropriety and the appearance of impropriety.
So, brass tacks, here's how it falls:
Judges are held to higher standards than you -- they willingly and knowingly accept those high standards. You are forgiving a judge for breaking the Federal Codes of Conduct because 'boy, if I was him, I'd break them too!'
And if that's your opinion: You also shouldn't be allowed to be a Judge.
Right, because that's what I said. With strawmen that huge, you could make a fortune feeding livestock. Not that we believed you were capable of a rational argument to begin with, the way you've been carrying on.
If we're talking hypotheticals here how would you feel if you got sexually assaulted? Then, when you rightfully accused the person who did the deed, you got called a liar, a political operative, or mentally insane?
hypothetically.
I don't think Jouska cares. I think he only cares that 'people were mean to him, so therefore he deserves to be allowed to act nothing like a Judge should and erode public confidence in the entire judiciary system by not being punished for violating that code of conduct because, gosh darn it, he should be allowed to be mad and swear vengeance on his political enemies while being elected to the highest court in the land for a lifetime position!'
How would they know? He probably told them in advance so they could prepare a defense.
Also, why the fuck do you keep yammering on about a tenet of a system that doesn't actually apply to these hearings?! How many people need to bonk you over the bonce with the phrase 'THIS IS NOT A CRIMINAL TRIAL INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY DOES NOT APPLY HERE' until you finally understand it?!
Yes, or no, right now: If Kavanaugh is found guilty before the Senate of having conducted sexual assault against any of these weapon who accused him -- regardless of how much evidence there is or how credible that evidence is -- from absolutely worthless evidence to completely damning -- what would be his sentence?
So why the fuck do you keep trying to defend him with 'Innocent until proven guilty' if you A: Acknowledge it doesn't apply here and B: agree that he has no point being on that bench?
No point in telling the GOP Senate members who are about to put him on the Supreme Court of a potential scandal that could be a major hiccup in the proceedings that might need attention? They weren't caught blindside by these accusations, they had a defense prepared in advance, ready to go, hell they may very well have been trying to ramrod him through ASAFP in part because of this. They knew something was up. MAybe not details like who, when, where, but they knew damn well he had done a nasty in the past that could potentially cause problems confirming him. There's no way they could have mounted this kind of defense if this caught them off-guard.
There is every reason for him to be disqualified if the claims that were brought can be considered 'reasonably possible'.
This is not a court; this is traffic cop court. The Judge doesn't need hard evidence because the standards of proof are not high. They are even lower than traffic court. If a Senator feels that he did what he's accused of then, yes, he has earned himself a potential one-way ticket to being kicked off that list of confirmations.
He is not owed that seat.
Of course you take that position.
Mr. "I think public masturbation shouldn't be a crime" and "I would love to have a stripper girlfriend"
How dare you accuse him of that. Where is your proof that rises to the standard of 'beyond a reasonable doubt'! You don't know that that post was just parody. He must, therefore, be confirmed to the Supreme Court!
Dude ain't going to jail for sexual assault, he's maybe not getting a job.
It is evidence however of Kavanaugh lying, as he attests that she never met him, she was never at any of these parties, and so forth.
Good thing that this is not that. Also, testimony provided under penalty of perjury is evidence.
And that case would have absolutely nothing to do with this hearing.
Did you even watch her explanation of the story. Cause she explicitly stated that she remember his face during the attack.
We don't need proof. All we need is reasonable suspicion.
