What is your favorite chapter in Half Life 2?
Please also incluse your reasoning behind why you like this chapter, if its the gameplay, lore or nostalgia.
I have pretty fond memories of Ravenholm, of course. Lots of people might agree it's their favorite, though I'm sure they really like the horror aspect of it. I just like it because it's the first gameplay sequence to come after the slog of an airboat section.
When I really think about it though, I think Anticitizen One is my actual favorite. It starts on a high note, with Kleiner near-holding you up, it has a bad ass name, and it's basically the beginning of the end.
Highway 17.
Ravenholm
The antlion hive in episode 2
Highway 17 for sure. I kind of think Anticitizen One is the lowest part of the game in comparison.
Water Hazard is a lot better than people give it credit for. There's explorable levels with some good encounters and wacky physics puzzles.
not Entanglement
Highway 17 contains two of my favorite moments in the series. First one is seeing daylight again after escaping Ravenholm and one is the wounded rebel being tended to by his teammates while triage at dawn place. First time in the game for me that the generic rebels felt like real people. That said the chapter overall is more like really great afterglow after the build up of Black Mesa East and climax of Ravenholm.
"We Don't Go To Ravenholm..."
But also unfinished section that contain dried up Strawberry fields.
If we're talking about just Half-Life 2, I'd say my favorite chapter is Follow Freeman and the Citadel chapter.
BUT if we're also talking about the episodes, favorite episode 1 chapter is Direct Intervention and favorite episode 2 chapter is Riding Shotgun.
I'm one of the weird guys who liked Anti-citizen One. Half-Life 2 was probably the first game I had ever played while also knowing how a developer console worked. I remember spending hours on end disabling the AI, placing rebels and combine around the streets, then turning the AI back on and just watching everyone duke it out. I suppose that's why Gmod was essentially my crack when I was younger.
Water Hazard was also pretty fun since I had to disable the water render to get anything more than 1 or 2 fps. This also made the highway parts fucking terrifying since I would walk near the invisible water only to have the leeches screech at me.
