what the FUCK
Some machines will just win.
I don't know why but a few moments with the CG looks...off to me?
"The world is changing..." Oh fuck, here we go again. I mean it looks interesting and Hugo Weaving is in it so maybe I'll check it out.
yessssssss cant fucking wait
This trailer's far better than the last one. Can't stop seeing Tom as Nathan from Misfits, though.
I assume Hugo Weaving is playing the villain 'cuz he's British, but the trailer left it somewhat ambiguous, as I don't know anything about what ever this is based on. It looks super cool though - Peter Jackson creates great movies when he isn't neutered by the studio forcing 3 films out of him.
An apocalyptic war destroyed society, and in order to avoid the devastation, radiation and to exploit the remaining resources, some people decided to make their cities move around. Then they ate most of the cities that couldn't, and Municipal Darwinism was born. Although it's a stupid system, cities can't stop moving and settle down. Cities drive around and catch each other and slowly cannibalise them and their population to add to the greater whole. Airships trade between the cities, and there are holdouts of normal settlements in inaccessible areas. The books mostly focus on British cities, and in my opinion, it's a commentary about towns and villages being swallowed up by the scabs of expanding urbanisation in the UK. They are steampunk young adult books.
Peter Jackson, the visuals, and Hugo Weaving are the only things keeping me hyped for this film. Young adult novels have not been good these past few years since Hunger Games, or hell even Twilight if you want to go obvious so I'm a bit cautiously optimistic for this film.

The novels were written a long, long time ago (first was in 2001). The first trailer looked very interesting, but this one is showcasing a lot of bad writing. FIrst 30 seconds were just cliches. Hopefully it's just a slightly naff trailer and not indicative of the writing in general. Also, what's the green eyed guy? I don't remember that being in the novel (though admittedly I last read it years ago).
Was the same for me with Iwan as Simon for a long time. It felt really odd at first, but he was great in Game of Thrones.
Yeah that's pretty interesting I read this all the way back in middle school but its pretty much spot on to how I imagined it.
Wanted to add that I was referring to movies that were based on young adult novels nowadays seem to not be good, but I definitely saw the hype from the first trailer to Mortal Engines. Even if it was based on a book it feels original. Cities on giant wheels eating and assimilating smaller cities is nothing short of eye-opening.
Uh, so I wasn't aware of this series at all, and have no intention of reading it, so I looked it up on wikipedia and spoiled the ending of the final book for myself. The main guy dies and the main girl commits suicide so she can join him. This is a children's series? Whew, Harry Potter this is definitely not.
It's directed and lead by the guy who storyboarded and lead the visual design of LoTR. The guy was a kid prodigy discovered by Peter Jackson during his splatter era. If you've ever wondered why PJ wasn't the initial director for The Hobbit and why he seemed not to want to get involved until he eventually did, it's because this was the film they were actually planning to make while Del Toro tackled The Hobbit 1+2. I'm totally up for this film because not only is it a clear sign of the LoTR/King Kong team being back on track, it's also what they wanted to do instead of The Hobbit and the project they wanted to do before doing Tintin 2. No matter if you're into this or not, this film is literally the NZ dream team back on track. But who am i to keep a wait and see approach. I'm also one of those freaks who loved PoTC 2 and 3 and followed the plot without writing it off as "shitty, incoherrent fantasy".
