https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-45766729 Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court seat looks all but confirmed after he won the backing of key senators despite an FBI investigation into sexual assault allegations. Republican Senator Susan Collins and Joe Manchin, a Democrat, both indicated their backing for the judge on Friday. What a surprise...
I hope being remembered as fucking evil traitors is worth it. Civil war happened six years after Dred Scott, and Kav is shaping up to be the worst justice since Taney.
A president with multiple allegations of sexual assault nominates a judge with multiple allegations of sexual assault and he still goes through without serious scrutiny. This is what people mean by "rape culture."
What exactly is the 1 democrat voting for him expecting to gain from this
Every ruling moving forward will have a specter of political bias around it.
His seat. He's from WV.
a reelection. Its actually annoying because they could have killed this at that point if manchin had voted no, but I suppose mcconnell could have called that vote again and again if he wanted to.
Up for reelection this November, voting for Kav hurts his chances. With Manchin it's either him or someone worse then him (goes with Trump 60% of the time )in the Senate, when he retires West Virginia will be totally red. Manchin and Tennessee candidate Phil Bredesen will still be backed by Dem money when both would vote yes after the allegations.
Even if he voted no, a 50/50 split means Pence would be tiebreaker, yes?
Which has never happened in American history, a justice being confirmed this narrowly is literally unprecedented.
Hope they all see everything they built for themselves crash at terminal velocity.
lets be honest, any other president would have pulled kav and put up someone else ages ago
Republicans are a poison to democracy and this country.
Trump is literally mentally incapable of processing concession or losing as a possibility. Its just who he is.
Even ignoring the sexual assault allegations, he was ranting about a conspiracy that the Clintons were out to get him, and warned that what goes around cones around. The SCOTUS is fucked.
Conservatives hate liberal judges for making up laws, he could make impartial redistricting illegal, absentee voting, all that stuff.
Didn't he say something like "The democrats will regret this"? I figure a supreme court justice literally saying "I will go out of my way to fuck over my political opponents", coupled with McConnel's fuckery during the latter half of the Obama administration, has given the Democrats a blank check to expand the size of the court next time they get power in my eyes. As far as I'm concerned, they've got every right. Normally I wouldn't say that such a measure would be warranted. But since the republicans have made it apparent that they're intent on bringing the gun to the boxing match we might as well arm ourselves as well. It's such a shame that they've destroyed civil politics and discourse in this country.
If the Democrats get back into power I hope they make the Republican's lives a living hell. Make them watch as their "accomplishments" come crashing down.
Constant House investigations and impeachment hearings would be good. One for every member of the Trump administration with connections to Russia, Kushner, Kav, Graham, the turtle cunt, everyone.
democrats are still stuck in the "when they go low, we go high!" mindset that gets them fucking nowhere
There's plenty of things they could do but they would have to go against the norm fairy.
Trump is literally mentally capable of processing anything.
Undo every single thing the Trump administration ordered and play as dirty as possible for payback.
Honestly, Democrats just need a simple message that has universal appeal. It's how JFK and FDR managed to bring the party to its highest points. A lot of the ideas that are coming out of the progressive wings are in reality pretty universally popular, and it's what allowed people like Bernie go to random small towns in the south and convince rural conservative voters that progressive ideas are the way to go. Republicans are in power because they gained a monopoly over the wedge issues like abortion, civil rights, and immigration that are based on emotions of fear. The more Democrats make their main focus to oppose these positions, the more they are allowing the Republicans to play on their home court and further the divide.
Also there needs to be a specific targeting of first past the post and overt lengths of holding seats till re election. Seats aren't a god given gift or nor should they be the privilege to become filthy rich in acting for bribes, they must be a duty to reflect their constituents. They're given near half a decade to play for the offers of so called donors instead of to serve the areas they represent. Too much comfort is given in a system designed to lock for the interests of those with power. Power should not be easy to hold and to use. Power should come from the many who choose the best few to represent them when needed. Power is a duty, and those who do ill with their duty can be stomped out by those who chose them once.
Democrats deserve to stack a majority court by upping the limit. They deserve to force confirmations afterwards to require 60 votes. They deserve to fuck over the republicans any way they can. This is a war for the integrity of the entire nation. Bring the big guns.
Pretty sure you meant incapable?
Corporate money and also have secret membership to Republican Party if Democrats aren't loyal enough to him anymore as Democrat. Not as long DINOs in modern day Democratic Party like Joe Manchin, another Conservatives and Corporate center-right Democrats like "New" Democrats (Clintonists) is still controling party, They will just to purposely surrender to Republicans and corporations out of Dark Money. Yea, They will keep using this to their voters like not so much different of how Republicans politicians scared their loyalists members.
Yes I do, for some reason my autocorrect likes deleting prefixes and suffixes.
Yeah, Rape culture isn't leaving anytime soon in the US. I feel sorry for you guys - we're committing economic suicide but I don't feel the same crushing helplessness I do for America.
