I wonder how Banksy pulled it off. I'd guess he had some opportunity to switch the frames out.
Could have been in the frame the entire time?
Wouldn't this count as misleading sale, or something, even though it's pretty badass, and if anything, probably adds to the picture's value in my book?
This is hilarious, if a bit too edgy for my liking. No idea why but people on twitter and reddit seen to be pissed about it.
It's not Banksy selling it.
good tbh, i always disliked how people tried to capitalise on art banksy puts out for the public to see
watch as it's price skyrockets.
its also possible that this was a duplicate made to do exactly this and the original is somewhere else.
no auction house would have let this happen on purpose
That photo is amazing. The shock is palpable.
>Posting a picture of the moment on Instagram, Banksy wrote: "Going, going, gone..."
He missed an opportunity to have it printed on the back of the frame, so it would slowly reveal itself as the piece shredded itself.
Okay so how did it activate? Did bansky have a remote?

I love it.
Fake or not I admire the theatrics
This actually left me in tears. If any of these people were real Banksy fans they'd know that he'd never sell his art and troll you to shit when you try and do.
Banksy is like the art world's Robbin Hood. Love it.
from reading, there wasn't a frame to begin with. so when it was mounted they had to have added this but I still can't imagine how nobody noticed it.
Good. Doesnt belong on a mansion wall for just one to enjoy.
The frame was likely provided with the painting during the initial sale/donation or whatever, and was subsequently placed in the frame before auction. As for the shredder's operation, the frame probably wasn't very heavy, he didn't use a thick blade and it likely ran off of some sort of lithium-ion battery with a remote for him to trigger - it didn't even complete its intended task of shredding the painting, which may be due to the battery promptly draining instead of him pausing it mid-shred for theatrics. A thick oak frame with that much depth would probably be fairly heavy to begin with, so an extra 2lbs probably wasn't noticeable.
What's Michael doing buying Banksy art?
I'm really interested in exactly who was in on this whole thing. Hiding a shredder in a frame isn't something I'd expect to be easy. The obvious power source being there and all that.
Next time he should make one that burst into flames
Oh come on and lighten up a bit. It’s just some light art-bants
ya but nobody noticed the painting sized slot in the bottom of the frame lol
zero calorie art bants is all he ever does
Its probably worth more now than it was to be honest
Right so if you're a random auction house inspector or whoever would inspect/hang it up and you saw a small slit at the bottom of the frame your first assumption would be "oh GOTCHA one of those dang shredders in the frame again, oldest trick in the book".
A small slit at the bottom of the frame sized for paper to pass through would be hardly noticeable or of any concern. It's not visible when looking at the painting.
But sometimes you get tired of beef and want a schlocky kebab instead.
It being at Sothebys has to count for something?
