the recession completely changed the political landscape as we know it. i'd say trumps rise and the rise of far right populism in general can at least be partially attributed to the fallout of the recession of 2008

Sorry for doubleposting, but we're doing okay. We're staying at a fairly centre-centre right with socially progressive referendums passing triumphantly. in fact we've got a referendum on blasphemy clause in the constitution
Well the french far right has had their best votes numbers in their history in the first turn of Macron's presidential elections. There's a lot of factors influencing that but it's absolutely a threat on the rise here too.
Still nowhere near a majority, though, which is required for them to have any political influence. They have fuck all seats, too.
