wow even the page is shaking from fear
Trump Admin "Lol yeah its fucked so what"
I hope cultured meat helps curb emissions, plant some trees on all that pasture land too.
won't happen
The shaking is so appropriate
Moral requirement to make money.
"So we have ten more years to milk the planets resources before we cash out, nice" Some rich asshole somewhere, probably.
lol didn't even think we had that long. We're more than likely fucked but ayyyyy
So you mean all the 2030 initiatives are too little too late? Color me shocked. As I've said, we should be planning and developing our technologies and ways of life for survival with the hopes of bringing about a revival. Not in the hopes that somehow we're just really wrong about all this.
The economic system of the planet disincentivizes long term planning.
Fuck the economic system as it will not last past the initial bursts of storms and weather that tear up and destroy the fragile parts of our economy.
The global economy and MAD are the reasons we didn't die in WW3. With the world economy shattered and the resulting (also because of the refugee crisis from climate) fascist right getting in power, they won't care about MAD when scarce resources are on the line.
Climate Change increases risk of earthquakes as well as hurricane - confirmed.
Ridiculous statement. Virtually every entrepreneurial or creative endeavor I can think of benefits from long-term planning. Short-sighted politicking and uninformed electorates got us where we are.
I suppose you're right, but I think he more meant that people aren't much incentivised to plan for after their death or health of the planet.
This sure makes me glad we have a dumbass President who thinks Climate Change is a Chinese hoax (or, I'm sorry, a President whose administration acknowledges the validity of Climate Change causing 7 degrees F change by 2100 but doesn't feel incentive to act on it).
This. Even if the west were to magically go 100% green within 10 years China and other developing countries don't give a fuck.
In other words, our fate is sealed. Make the best out of these remaining years, they are going to be our last.
lol we don't have even remotely that much time. Parts of the world are bordering on, or are literally on fire all year round, natural disasters have absolutely skyrocketed in intensity and frequency, and virtually 0 nations have even remotely prepared for the repercussions of climate change, no less made any real efforts to curb it. The only way we could have beaten this is with a centralised confederation of nations, similar to the EU, but instead we are more fractured than ever before both internally, and globally. We're fucked, plain and simple.
That is exactly opposite of how most venture capital is spent. The Majority of it expects short term results hence why a lot of companies go bust within 2 years.
It's too bad the right would rather see the world burn as they gorge themselves on the labor of the poor.
This makes me sad
China at least gives more of a fuck than the US. Pollutes less per capita, too. Blaming other nations when you personally contribute more to climate change than their citizens is both hypocritical and counter-productive.
Entrepreneurial planning doesn't exactly account for global factors like resources and ecological impact, so even if it benefits from long term thinking, plenty of companies don't practice it, so it's not like poor political representation is the only factor here.
Don't know where you've been getting your info, if you have even went and gotten any info, but China has been one of the leading countries in solar power production and is still growing. Sure they are doing that shady coal shit but in comparison to the US they are doing MUCH better at transitioning. Not to mention the US and Europe are basically running off of their industry.
so now i know how much time i have until i put the gun in my mouth
This, a substantial part of China's emissions come from industries propped up mainly by Western consumers in the first place. At the end of the day, every citizen can substantially reduce their emissions, even those they are indirectly responsible for and occur in other countries.
China is dominating when it comes to de-carbonising their public transport, on-shore wind and EV adoption. Evidently they have some major work to do still with the reveal of them still building coal power stations. But in the meantime let's all focus on dropping our personal carbon footprint. There's fuckall point complaining about how bad it is and then not adapting our individual lifestyles to help combat this.
For real The US needs to stop screwing around start trying to be a green energy leader I'm not even saying this because of some bleeding heart logic. Anyone can see how destroying land and sea for profit is bad, only an asshole can't see that. the US should do this because its good for the country itself, and China is on a fast track to economically really fucking the US over hard. If not, then the US should learn to speak Mandarin instead. Because our allies aren't going to deal to us forever.
