A conservative congressman is under fire after rolling out a new nickname for the Democratic candidate in Florida’s governor’s race. At a rally on Saturday for Republican Ron DeSantis,
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) criticized crime rates in Tallahassee, where Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum is currently mayor. “Tallahassee is like the murder capital of Florida,” Gaetz
yelled into the microphone in front of a small crowd in Cape Coral, Florida. “I don’t know whether to call him Andrew Gillum or Andrew Kill-em.”
If elected, Gillum would be Florida’s first black governor. In August, DeSantis, a former congressman, warned voters not to “monkey this up” by voting for Gillum, a statement many saw
as racist.
Florida Democrats were quick to fire back at the latest comments. Terrie Rizzo, the chair of the state’s Democratic Party, called Gaetz’s language “racist and despicable.” St. Petersburg
Mayor Rick Kriseman said the name-calling was “just another instance of unacceptable language being weaponized by the DeSantis campaign’s top surrogates.” And Sean Shaw, the
Democratic candidate for attorney general, responded by comparing DeSantis to Donald Trump, according to Florida Politics.
Gaetz—a freshman congressman with a reputation for inflammatory stunts, including inviting notorious right-wing troll Charles Johnson to the State of the Union in January—doubled
down on Twitter.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, crime rates in Tallahassee’s Leon County were the highest in the state in 2017, ranking first in property crime and fifth in violent crime. Yet
under Gillum, the rate decreased by 15 percent during 2016, more than twice as much as in the rest of the state. DeSantis has increasingly taken aim at Gillum’s record on crime. In one
speech, he claimed that “Andrew Gillum cannot keep communities safe. It’s part of his ideology.”
Chris King, Gillum’s running mate, responded on Sunday. “Our election should and must be about real people facing real issues, and not hyperbolic propaganda used to fearmonger and
gin up their base,” King told Florida Politics. “It’s time for DeSantis and his allies to end the name-calling and divisiveness and start treating Florida voters with respect.”

Is Matt Gaetz an alter ego of Trump or something?
It's like I never left kindergarten.
Typical GOP rhetoric. Immature bullying, name calling, and racist dog whistling. I can’t wait for this horseshit to go out of style.
It's a childish nickname but how is it racist?
It was out of style until 2016.
Before he called him a ghetto rapper.
Two can play this game, Matt Gayz.
Florida's changing soon, well over the required amount support the initiative to give felons voting rights back, and it will be the largest instance of enfranchisement since women's sufferage. This might make
Florida more of a D leaning state instead of a swing since 20% of black Florida adults can't vote due to a felony.
idk about this guy in particular, but all these alt-right republican guys hang out with each other

Can we just give Florida back to Spain?
As they say in spain: "no"
which, translated into english, means no
They wouldn't take it.
Trump would never give back Florida to the Mexicans
Watch as the Florida GOP challenges it anyway, in the hopes that it will eventually make it's way to the supreme court, where Kavanaugh and co will rule that convicted criminals don't have rights.
Considering the conservatives believe a single fuck up in your life is fair grounds to permanently remove your rights even when you correct said fuck up, its a no brainer they would send it to the SC.
Just look at florida's state government now, They have panels to see whether ex-cons are able to have their rights back with a long and extremely strenuous process on questions like "do you go to church". And since its a panel of people who have no kind of criminology or psychology degree, they can just say no because they felt like it.
It's a state level thing, so I really doubt the court would hear it, only four states never automatically give felons the right to vote back, most give it back after serving the sentence, probation, and parole.
MattGates is the collective proper noun to discuss his series of scandals.
You're joking

The thing that drives me up the wall about all the republicans is how they've started behaving like Trump in little ways. They mimic his stupid taglines and just generally act like fucking drones. The guy running for governor in Georgia does this stupid shit all the time in his ads.
Because, one of the highest turnout groups in US politics are people who love hearing that kind of shit. Since trump won, homophobes/racists/xenophobes have shown their heads in broad daylight with no fear of repercussions because "the president does it, so can I".
Death of euphemism

Trump is everything the Republican Party has been trying to avoid admitting they are for 50 years now. They've realized they don't need to hide it.
floridaman proves his ignorance when running in the same field as a black man, more at 11.
