Why? Are there even any Catholics in North Korea?
There will be now
Imagine the Norks kidnapping the Pope, and using him for the ultimate bargaining chip.
oh boy cant wait for the 10th crusade
I think this will be a new hope for this Supreme Country!
ya I'm slightly confused because even historically the northern region of Korea was fanatically isolationist, killing like everyone that sailed on up there. there were still quite a lot of missionaries in the peninsula during japanese occupation and the korean war though so who knows. It can't be a whole lot given how tightly everything is regulated
Maybe Kim and his generals had a change of heart, or they realized how fucked their country would be if they kept on the path they were on. I'm sure there is all kinds of shit going on there we don't know about.
Ad maiorem Dei gloriam Comrade Kim
I'm just picturing lectures in History showing those graphs with North Korea having arrows pointed at it coming from every single country in the world.
oh my god, North Korea really is a medieval kingdom, they want to convert to Christianity to try to get favor.
So, we might see a North Korea being followers of Catholicism. You'd figure they go more the Eastern Orthodox route, considering they'd like to have ties with Russia and all. Either way, Christanity is gonna spread across asia like wildfire in the coming years.
Yes, estimated to be about about 500-1,000 though exact numbers are obviously hard to find. There is a Korean Catholic Association run by the government that has no actual affiliation with Rome, just like the Chinese Catholic organization.
Honestly wouldn't be the first time a Pope was held captive.
Its pretty clear they've realized that they can go a long way by giving just a little to make politicians look like they won. In all these talks and summits they have yet to actually give up anything of value.
North Korea would never become Catholic. They have their own state religion in essence that's based around the worship of Kim Il-sung, even now long after he's dead. It's the way they keep their populace under control. In fact when North Korea was first created they executed any of the Christians that didn't get the hell out of dodge.
