Fuck optimization, fuck compression, fuck everything. Just get a bigger HDD.
I installed Gears of war 4 the other day and it was 133gb.
damn on my old connection that wouldve taken like 4 straight days to download...
Does compressing things to fit even on BluRay disks takes too much time and money?
I thought getting rid of the campaign would get rid some of the load off but I guess not
Remind me again why you can still buy 500GB consoles? I’d rather pay upfront for 1TB+
Eh the price difference between the two might be cheaper to just buy an external HDD for $60.
If its like the xbox 360, you could plug any pc hard drive into the slot instead. Remember a friend busting the top loaded hard drives open, and its just a cheap pc hard drive with a connector for the slot hooked into the sata port.
That's just the installation size. Every game does this. Though this is pretty darn high
you should have 112GB of free hard-drive space. This isn't the size of the download, rather, it's the amount of space needed to complete the installation. The final installation footprint, as it's called, is around 55GB.
I remember when people complained about gta iv being too big at 16gb
gta v is around 70gb or more due to gtao updates since i last remember
50GB day one patch still is a fuckton of patch data. That won't make many people with slow connections happy at all.
I will keep posting this until the day CoD stops costing 10 dollars worth of space just for the initial install AKA never ever forever

Getting massive flashbacks to titanfall 1.
Unevolved ancient mitochondria: compression, language install per region/player choice
500 quadrillion IQ transcendent God of reality and time: install ALL LANGUAGES
Mmh, uncompressed Esperanto dub and 4k coffee cup textures in 40 different languages.
Wasn't BLOPS III install around the same size? This doesn't surprise me.
Call of duty has a shitton of random unique assets in its levels. They're extremely detailed compared to battlefield's empty rooms. Also a texture that is twice the size in dimensions requires 4 times the amount of disk space.

The required space versus final install size sort of makes me thing it's just a really inefficient install process. Kind of like how Steam downloads a compressed package for games and decompresses on the fly, maybe this has a similar concept except it works in a temp directory and then copies the final product over to the install folder? That would effectively double the required space until the installer cleans up its mess
Call of Duty: CINEMATIC MOD
I remember when I thought spore was massive at 8 gigabytes
Imagine trying to download the patch with only 1.3 mbps internet
Good thing i dont play blackops 4
What boggles my mind is that there's no campaign mode, so all of this sheer bullshit amounts of size is a bunch of relatively uncompressed shit split between Blackout, Multiplayer and Zombies. What in god's name did they do to this game to have it more bloated than ever before?
It's preferable, because iirc the xbone comes with a SATA2 drive so an external 3.0 drive can be faster.

Yowza.
I've noticed this. Even my USB 3.0 powered MyBook definitely loads games faster on my OG Xbone than the internal drive.
Haha yeah I hate big games cough help

Which cod is that? You’re cherry picking an empty room from bf3 from 2011 on a level that’s probably larger than 2 cod levels combined
Was about to say yeah, BF3 compared to what looks like one of the very recent CODs.
Battlefield 1 and V seem to be slightly better in filling buildings but still have some very generic empty buildings but you have to make compromises somewhere i guess.
Battlefield V has just as empty buildings as 3 and 4. I couldn't find a picture of it though, so I just used a battlefield 3 screenshot.
Battlefield also reuses a shitton of assets. Like every map in bf4 has the same construction props and whatnot scattered around.
The problem is they don't bother to compress the textures, they probably save them all as uncompressed .tga files before converting them into their own texture format.
Well some of the issue is how the game is packaged. Some engines to make the patching process easier have these large packages of data. To change one part of it, the entire package is replaced. If you have a game on a disk with a small change, it might require new copies of many of those packs. But you can't write that to the disk.
I imagine that's a similar thing here.
