STAFFORD, Va. (AP) — Officials at a Virginia middle school are facing criticism after allegedly barring a transgender student from using the boys’ or girls’ locker rooms during an active shooter drill.
The LGBTQ rights group Equality Stafford said that during the drill, the girl was forced to sit on the bleachers and later in the hall while other students in her physical education class took shelter in locker rooms. The group said the teachers were apparently debating which locker room would be appropriate.
WUSA-TV reports that concerned parents, friends and neighbors are planning to protest at the school board meeting Tuesday.
A spokeswoman released a statement saying that the new superintendent has asked for a review of “all protocols and procedures to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect.”
"It's not appropriate for you to be in the girl's locker room! Just sit out here and get murdered then"
Ahhh Gender roles
Who beats their meat in an active shooter enviroment.
Pretty sure in an active shooter situation no one really gives a shit what locker room you go into.
This is so fucking dumb and I can't believe the teachers are actually debating this, the answer should be pretty fucking obvious, in an extreme emergency like a fire or a shooter your gender should not matter, only that you stay alive.
That must have been so humiliating for her.
35% of the US thinks transgender people are as bad if not worse then pedophiles and zoophiles. That stupid shit about gay marriage being a slipper slope to legal pedophilia? They believe it
Yeah, and?
Wait I don’t understand. Aside from the which gender locker room should she use debate, why is that even I acted during a shooting?
its not like any bodies going to be changing while there’s a shooter present.
No but you see, shooters are a common occurrence but having someone in the wrong changing room is icky and must be fought against!
Does one exclude the other?
If there is an active shooter scenario I'm ducking into whatever room is closest, I'm not caring what it says on the door.
This is dumb and so are the teachers.
This is just dumb. Even if they were not trans. At work, we have have tornado shelter zones marked for each cubicle. A lot of them will in fact go into the women's and men's restroom. Because go figure, they are safest places to be. And because we are reasonable human beings, they don't bother seating people based on sex. Because natural disasters are not the time to be worrying that someone with a penis is in the no penis room.
Apparently a lot of people forget that seperating men and women restrooms is simply a social thing out of convenience (men and women specific fixtures) and "comfortability". Apparently, some people lack the critical thinking skills that when it becomes a matter of life or death, nobody gives a shit about men in women's restrooms.
I hate to be that guy but... trans in middle school? Isn't that a bit young?
If you hate to be that guy, dont? Just takes a couple of minutes of google searching to find out about the subject without derailing the thread.
I don't see how it's derailing the thread, it's a perfectly legitimate question regarding the article.
Do you have any idea how early gender dysphoria can start? Gay people come out all the time in middle school and high school; teenagers have more than enough knowledge about themselves to come to the decision.
I mean yeah it's kinda fucked that they exist, but I'd rather they did than didn't due to America unfortunately having to deal with this as a very real possibility.
No I had no idea how early it starts. My mistake. Thanks for answering my question.
It's not uncommon at all for people to trace back their feelings of wanting to be a girl or a boy or the opposite sex or whatever, all the way back to early childhood. What's fair is when people actually have the confidence and ability and feel safe enough to act on their feelings
This title perfectly summarizes the state of the United States education system. School administrators/staff trying to find more dumb arbitrary restrictions to fuck their students over with in the middle of a god damned school shooting (drill).
Not surprising. Drawing from stories I've heard and my time in the South Carolina public school system as a kid, school administrator types are usually pretty awful.
Out of touch, old as shit normally, and more caring about maintaining their career and paycheck instead of taking care of their students properly and in a caring, compassionate manner.
U S A
Just a thought, aren't active shooter drills kind of designed accidentally to tell the shooter where to find the most amount of students and make them aware of how they might defend themselves?
Kinda seems like training for both sides.
If the shooter is a student, yeah I can see how it would do exactly that.
I think the point is to barricade the doors somehow
When I was in highschool we did a bomb threat drill and would all evacuate to the football field. If I were a terrorist I'd just bomb the football field
