I used to work with someone who, about 2 years before I started working there, fully descended into conspiracy theories, they'd get so angry if anyone argued or showed them anything proving otherwise. I wonder now if they follow this kinda stuff now, since I came out to them early this year.

The internet gives people like this too much ability to validate their crazy ideas, back in the day they'd have to stew in their basement by themselves or stand on the street with a sandwich board and leaflets like a normal crazy person.
The Jews were the original example of this. They've prospered throughout history despite being a relatively small people group that has suffered constant persecution and hatred, and their prosperity has only caused them to be hated and persecuted more. Nevermind that the deck has been stacked against them for most of their existence. Somehow, they were actually in control of everything, so the conspiracies go.
