https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/09/voter-registrations-skyrocket-after-taylor-swift-instagram-post.html Voter registrations among young Americans shot up in the wake of pop megastar Taylor Swift's Instagram post urging her 112 million followers to get out the vote. Swift's Sunday night missive, in which she also endorsed two Tennessee Democrats, catapulted the generally apolitical singer into the fray ahead of the November midterms. New data from Vote.org s how Swift's voice is already making an impact. The nonprofit group said nearly 65,000 Americans ages 18 to 29 registered to vote in the roughly 24 hours after the singer-songwriter's social media rallying cry. By noon on Tuesday, that number grew to more than 102,000 — about 70 percent of which came from voters below the age of 25. That surge in young registrations far exceeded the combined total of every other age group in the roughly 48-hour time period, in which about 64,000 Americans ages 30 and up registered. Swift targeted young Americans in her lengthy message. "So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count," she wrote, noting that Tennessee's voting registration deadline was fast approaching on Tuesday. Vote.org attributed the spike in numbers directly to Swift's Instagram message. "Taylor's post has helped bring out young voters," the nonprofit said in a statement. "We're especially happy to see that because we know voting is habit-forming." In Swift's home state of Tennessee, registrations in just the first eight days of October have already blown past every other month in 2018. More than 5,000 Tennesseans registered in October by Tuesday at noon, more than twice as many as the next-highest month of September, which saw 2,811 registrations. The spike placed Tennessee as the state with the ninth-highest numbers since Sunday, with 6,217 registrations overall. Texas, which has roughly four times the population of Tennessee, took the top spot with 31,307 registrations. Swift had long declined to endorse or denounce specific political candidates — a position that irked some political activists. But in her Instagram message Sunday, Swift wrote that "I feel differently about that now." The post urged Tennessee voters to vote for Democrat Phil Bredesen for Senate over his GOP challenger, Marsha Blackburn, in the Nov. 6 elections. Both candidates are angling to fill the seat of Republican Sen. Bob Corker, who is not running for re-election. Swift also endorsed incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Cooper. 30,000 in Texas is also good for O'Rourke.
Wow, she did something good
102k is enough to turn tides even in gerrymandered districts. Any bit more is excellent news
I guess, But for how long until they loss interest in politics after this? Over this very successful political stunt?
Taylor's post has helped bring out young voters," the nonprofit said in a statement. "We're especially happy to see that because we know voting is habit-forming." Don't know if that's true or not
The far right truly believed she was their hero and that she was with them, they are utterly heart broken to find out she doesn't actually post on 4chan in her spare time and doesn't support white nationalism.
I like her music about 25% more now.

Watch pop stars save the fucking united states.
A celebrity "business" man was the one to bring it all down, only makes ironic sense.
How did that rumour that she was far-right actually start anyway?
It started with meme images of Taylor Swift plastered with quotes from Adolf Hitler being posted around the net. Then neo-nazi websites like the Daily Stormer and similar communities started to take it seriously where they draw comparisons of her songs being subtle references to red pilling, and started dubbing her an Aryan Goddess. Sub-communities and stuff grew from that, going from a joke to something serious, and using her apolitical stance at the time with conspiracy levels of evidence that she's secretly a white supremacist.
Oh ok, so like every recent stupid major thing, it's a meme some idiots started taking seriously.
It's like the "OK" hand signal being interpreted as white supremacist; people started it to trick the media into reporting that it was true, but then actual white supremacists started doing it, and started sharing pictures of politicians they thought were red-pilling the masses.
There was also the fact that it seemed like she posted on /b/ for a time, although moot deconfirmed that.
Blank Space is actually about voting for a write-in candidate in districts where a Democrat isn't on the ballot
Sad it requires celebrities to get people to vote.
Voting should be compulsory.
I'm interested in how many of those people who had no real interest in voting until Taylor Swift told them to will actually show up to the polls in November. I'm willing to put money on a very small number.
Voting should only be compulsory if being properly informed is also compulsory. Political engagement should be encouraged but forcing people out to vote when they don't give a shit and just vote at random or for whichever party their parents voted for doesn't really bring anything of value.
Being properly informed is impossible, because in this modern world that could mean anything. I bet you a ton of Trump supports consider themselves informed. But what it does do is get everyone to the poll to make everyone's opinion considered, and a LOT of people who don't give a shit just throw a invalid vote in.
I feel like it's too late in the thread to make a 'look what you made her do' joke, since it really should land as first or second reply, but it's all I got to add to the discussion
Aren't there a bunch of neo-nazis who worship Taylor Swift because they think she's an alt-right 4chan poster
not anymore lmao
Voting shouldn't be compulsory, but registration should be automatic.

There were also some screenshots of some poster on 4chan that internet detectives(c)(tm)(r) believed to be taylor swift based on things in the background
It seems like wishful thinking to say Taylor Swift rallied a bunch of people to register, Tuesday was the deadline for voter registration in several states.
I voted last election, does that mean I’m good to vote in the midterms? Is there a way to check if you’re registered?
Most states should have a way to check if you're registered, and it's a good idea to double-check." I did so for my state (SC) a while ago this year, and probably will do so again in the next week or so since I won't put it past my state govt. to purge non-hardcore GOP from rolls.
