Well, if we can't get Guardians 3 by him, mind as well settle for this
Well, he can't make it any worse than the original. ...I hope.
Bronze Tiger or bust.

Eh... first GotG was alright but I actually thought the second one was rubbish - I'd actually rank it as the worst MCU movie. So Gunn's only 50/50 in my book. Then again, that would be a step up for DC at this point. Besides Wonder Woman, have they made a good movie since the Nolan trilogy?
Well, I think it's safe to say that this is the result of the society we live in.
The second GOTG was objectively better than the first. You're the second person I've heard that didn't like it and you both describe it as abject trash. Why?
Because the tone yoyos all over the place, causing it to completely undermine its own serious moments and Drax got turned into one of the most obnoxious characters I can recall in recent memory. What rock do you live under where you've only heard two people speak of it negatively?
Credit where it’s due, James Gunn seems like he could pull it off, considering SS was WB’s answer to the Guardians of the Galaxy. But then again, they also thought it was a good idea to let a marketing firm to re-edit the final version, so they could get Scorsese to make one of these movies and still fuck it up as far as I’m concerned

I hope it was worth it, Disney
Because "everyone has daddy issues" is a plot for a porno, not a superhero movie. Because most of the jokes were repeated from the first one. Because every scene felt like it dragged on longer than it needed to. Because the conflict was so incredibly vague. Because it just didn't have the sincere charm of the original - it just felt like a quick sequel mashed out for a quick buck. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, by any stretch, but I've seen every MCU movie (save Ant-man 2, still haven't seen that) and I actually think GotG2 is the worst. It just completely failed to entertain.
I would cream myself if James Gunn made the DCU awesome and a worthy rival of the MCU just because Disney fired him
The DCU basically died with Justice League, if I am understanding it correctly. The films will share a universe but not be interconnected to tell a story like the MCU. http://www.vulture.com/2017/09/dc-wonder-woman-movie-strategy-universe.html
the second was mostly them just standing around on Dadplanet waiting for stuff to happen.
Disney you fucking SUCK
Clearly you haven’t played Mass Effect 2
Some of those early MCU movies are way worse than GOTG2. Captain America, Thor, Incredible Hulk, the Iron Man sequels...
Captain America was pretty awesome. Not amazing, but I can't think of anything bad about it, just good stuff that could have been better. Thor was okay. Only real problems were the monster thing being so bland, and the inconsistent style (which got worse in later films - I don't feel like they ever figured out what the Thor series was supposed to be). Hulk was strange. A lot more artsy than a superhero flick has any call to be, but I found it enjoyable. Iron Man 2 was merely forgettable. You finish watching it and immediately forget what happened in it. It's definitely bottom-5 material, but I'd still rather rewatch it than Guardians 2. Iron Man 3 was actually pretty good, it had some cool concepts, even if it didn't execute them perfectly. I am much more forgiving of movies that try something novel and fail, than movies that do nothing new at all and still fail.
I'm one of those people who thought Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was better than the first. It was absolutely everything I wanted in a sequel. If Gunn ends up not just writing but also directing the new Suicide S quad, I'm there day one. Between this, Shazam, maybe Aquaman, and Matt Reeves' Batman (when it finally gets out of development hell) the new and improved DCEU might actually be able to compete with the MCU.
Caving into a vocal minority of people who had nothing but contempt for Disney and Marvel anyway. Definitely one of the dumbest decisions I've seen a company make in recent times.
So it really isn't just a phase mom?
That's why I have my own personal theories as to why Iger signed off on this decision. They all were undoubtedly aware they might have to sacrifice GOTG volume 3 if they made this decision. So the question is why they were willing too. I think the answer is very simple: because they were worried that James Gunn might affect the future of the Fox/Disney merger, which is worth far, far more than any single movie. While people are completely right that everyone other than the alt-reich would have moved on from the controversy after a few days, the mere possibility that the Alt-Reich's rage against Gunn would have eventually filtered up to the Orange in Chief was enough for them to can him. Because after all, we are living in a time where the entire reason Comcast doesn't have the goverment's favor regarding mergers is because Trump hates CNN.
You're doing it! You're overhyping him!
Lobo starring Dave Butista, directed by James Gunn.
Are you saying ME2 wasn't a porno? God damn, I've been playing it wrong the whole time.
I personally thought that GOTG 2 lacked a lot of the subtlety the first movie had, instead making jokes about huge turds, nipples, etc. The first movie had better jokes that were more restrained. However, I do like that the second movie was able to break more of the MCU rules due to the confience they had in the formula at that point.
I definitely agree that Drax was weaker in GOTG2 because he wasn't funny as a result of his character's culture, but because he was trying really hard to be funny. "It wouldn't go over my head... My reflexes are too fast, I would catch it" is infinitely funnier than "I HAVE FAMOUSLY HUGE TURDS" or "No, you're a dude... This is a man..."
SHAZAM!
