I wonder how much it has to do with the accessibility and prevalence of weed as an alternative, as opposed to government policy and such
Good on em, hope the trend continues.
beer tastes gross and just makes me wish I was drinking anything else
This is the case for me and a lot of people I know. I like a drink now and then but I'd much rather have a smoke
Lots of people in that age range grew up with alcoholic and abusive parents
You're all wrong. The drop has occurred in people under the age of 25. 25 years ago... that's 1993. And what was released in 1993? This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqVRCUBPc4E You telling me it's a coincidence?
Yeah, it is. The Sonic Sez segments were edited out in the UK broadcasts of that show. Those segments didn't air in the UK until 2003.
I rejected alcohol after I left the contents of my body all over a House of Blues bathroom floor
you can't pull your 90's Sonic tv show shit with me smurf boy
How did they get these results, I am 24 and I drink every day. Why was in not in this poll
Same so I just drink hard stuff mixed with sweet stuff.
Wonder if this means the title of Nation of Pissheads will be granted to another :V
This was the biggest reason I all but stopped drinking. It's cheaper and I don't want to die the next day. I do still love my beer though
I'm not from the UK, but I've just never had any desire to drink or smoke or use any drugs. In fact there is something about weed that being around it causes me to become nauseous so unfortunately I can't really hang out with people while they're smoking it.
It's much the same in Australia. Drinking spiked in the 1970s and it's been declining since. Most teenagers aren't drinking before 17 these days too. Education on the effects of alcohol + better control of its sale has made a big difference
Liver failure is easier to treat than lung failure.
People who post this kind of stuff should really post example cases of what they're talking about. When was the last time anyone heard of fucking lung failure from cannabis use? Also you don't have to smoke or vape it.
I'm 26 and in the US, but I can see why. Personally, I don't drink either. I despise the taste of alcohol. It always peeves me when my brother or parents bring home some new, interesting-looking drink with a novel flavor or something and it turns out to have alcohol content, which means that anything good about it would just be tainted by what basically tastes and feels like battery acid going down your throat. Ugh.
Part of the reason I don't like alcohol is that I know my personality will change and I will be less in control of myself. That absolutely terrifies me. I pride myself on always having very strong self-control and I like being completely in control of my actions, so giving that up is almost diametrically opposed to who I am as a person. Further, I'm scared of what I might be like without my self-control, I don't know what I might do and there could be dire consequences to my actions. I do not want to cross that line. I mean I might just want to hide away from everyone and thats it or I might become a social butterfly and the life of any party. Or, I might become a rapist, I might start a fight and someone gets seriously injured, I may try to get behind the wheel of a car. There are a lot of possible consequences for losing that control and I don't want to go there.
i'd suggest you actually try drinking, unless you're necking whole bottles of vodka you're gonna remain basically entirely in control of your actions if you aren't an arsehole normally, you wont become one just because you had a few pints
See, I actually don't mind the smell of weed, some kinds even have a kinda nice smell. But for whatever reason I have a physiological reaction that makes me ill and so I literally cannot be around it for any length of time.
There's a difference between getting smashed and enjoying the taste of a nice craft IPA or whiskey.
yeah because everyone's doing ket and speed instead
Alcohol is more dangerous to health than some of the other recreational drugs. IMO its a waste of money that can always runs the risk of causing problems (aggression, drunk driving, sexual assault, etc). If you can learn to live without theres no real point in picking it up
It's a shame this isn't the case the case in North America at all, or at least here in Canada. Drunk culture is a definitely a thing here, as in tons of people around my age and lower go out of their way to get drunk, not to just have fun with some beer on the side. I've avoided beer and all that my entire life due to my own personal distaste for that "culture", and seeing what it does to people.
lmao, jokes on them I'm drinking myself into an early grave and nobody's gonna stop me
I think he means that most people smoke it, which is pretty bad for your lungs like cigarettes. Taking cannibis without smoking it would be ideal.
I mean I’ve personally cut down my drinking significantly because I’m more health conscious and want to improve myself as a person, which I find alcohol tends to fuck with. but in highshool and early college years I was a mess of drinking and drug binges.
This is great news! I'll drink to that.
