Ciri is NOT race changed, thankfully. https://twitter.com/NXOnNetflix/status/1050046327793442816?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1050046327793442816&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pcgamer.com%2Fnetflixs-the-witcher-tv-series-casts-yennefer-of-vengerber-and-ciri%2F
I think lot of people jumped the gun on the rumors about Ciri's race
ok now which face is who
Left to right, Top Row: Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, Queen Calanthe, Fringilla Vigo, Bottom Row: Sabrina Glevissig, Mousesack, Eist Tuirseach, Tissaia de Vries Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra will star as Ciri and Yennefer in .. ;)
Can't wait to see who they cast for Eskel, Lambert, and Vesemir. That is if they bother hanging around Kaer Morhen at all. Eskel has been my favorite Witcher based on his personality and looks. I love characters with rough battle damage that isn't aesthetically pleasing, and the fact that he is arguably stronger than Geralt is awesome. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/witcher/images/9/9b/Tw3_journal_eskel.png/revision/latest?cb=20160708060530
If Emperor Emhyr shows up I hope they have Charles Dance reprise his role.
He seems a bit too old, but i definitely wouldn't mind that Joaquin Pheonix would be my choice even though that's never gonna happen
Mark Hamill as Vesemir or bust
Lotta people looking for fuel for there identity politics agenda
We need a good pick for Dandelion.
That wasn't what it was, though. The reasoning was solid and concerns legitimate. I don't know why you're trying to handwave it as a non-issue. A great example of a non-issue is that people are somehow losing their mind that Fringila Vigo's actor is black, despite her not having a defined race before hand, not having major cultural retcon implications and not being a central character that suddenly has to have an all new background and core personality to go with said change and the different life-experiences it would mean. I hope you realize why one would have been an issue and the other isn't. All in all, Americans need to lay off the moralizing and race/gender-bending. It's lame when creating good original fiction is a wide-open option instead.
Why is Fringilla Vigo black?

I prefer this one. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/242634/a3dfb9e3-b028-4c42-9db1-b0f50989ccb2/image.png
They jumped the gun because they excluded white actresses from the list of wanted people for the casting.
One of the many, many casting studios did, not the actual production.
I'm happy about this cast. I really like the actress for Yennefer. Though Sabrina and Fringilla should be swapped I think? Unless you do some overhauls of Nilfgaard then they were the Witcher's universe's nazis. But maybe it will make sense in the show.
That still detracts from it being "jumping the gun"
Was it even Ciri they were casting for?
How is Nilfgaard, nazis? At most they’re modeled a bit after the Holy Roman Empire. Racism in the series is not between humans, but between Humans and Non-Humans anyway.
A lot of 'no-names', wonder how decent they will be - most curious about Anya Chalotra's acting chops, she looks a little young to be Yen (will take some getting used to seeing her as Ciri's adopted mother) and will need to have a lot of charisma. Anyone familiar with her work? I'm happy with Ciri's casting, hope the directing will be good!
Are you saying that the factions in that universe don't hate each other? Namely Nilfgaard against everyone else? They are expansive and super authoritarian. Pretty sure they don't put people from conquered counties on the highest positions.
Not liking a rival nation is not the same as racism. But, that last bit isn’t even really true. For example, while Toussaint is a Duchy within Nilfgaard but has a decent amount of Autonomy, Nilfgaard also created Dol Blathana and installed Francesca Findebar on the throne. and being expansive and having a central emperor doesn’t make them nazis either. and that also doesn’t mean there isn’t black people.
I didn't say they wouldn't give her important position because of skin color but because she would be from a conquered/rival nation. Even then I said it still could make sense, like in the case of Francesca.
how exactly would the already established character suddenly be from a conquered or rival nation?
Aren't most if not all Nilfgaardians white? I assumed they'd have to change her origin no? I might be wrong on this.
I don't think it's specifically mentioned in the books.
It's been gone over multiple times in this thread already. In the original works skintone isn't usually even mentioned, much less an issue. We don't really know, is the short and sweet answer, and the longer one includes "nor does it really matter". The game has most if not all Nilfgaardians as white people, but the Netflix series is also not based on the games but the books, and apparently Sapkowski has given his "okay" about the casting so far. With Ciri it made sense to be more than a little cautious, even if the reaction jumped the gun and was based off of one of multiple casting studios. But with most of the side characters it really, really doesn't matter.
You're acting like I'm against this casting choice. I'm not. I just said I'm not sure about it but it can make sense in the show.
well yeah, the lead producer and several other producers said that they didn't actually want to exclude white people but people wanted to make an issue where there was none and that it was literally at fault of the casting company, many people (at least people who replied to my comment on the matter) chose to ignore the official statement in favor of following the controversy
