<we need a new banner, anyone welcome to make a new one>
PREVIOUSLY, on TF2 Chat and Speculation:
Blue Moon Update (March 28 Patch) Revamped the ingame Competitive system to be based off the Glicko System in CS:GO.
Casual also uses Glicko system, but levels aren't taken into account for matchmaking.
ctf_sawmill, ctf_well, cp_5gorge, ctf_2fort_invasion, and ctf_foundry have been added to Casual mode.
You can now Queue for multiple modes at the same time, and also Queqe while you play different modes(Casual, Comp, MVM, Community)
If you Queue at the same time into different modes, accepting the first match will cancel the others.
Blue Moon Case Added 19 new cosmetic items
Multiple weapon Fixes and tweaks to the changes introduced in Jungle Inferno
Dragon Fury, Hot Hand, Gas Passer, Thermal Thruster and Second Banana now drop as regular items. can still be obtained as contract rewards.
Still not avaliable in Strange variant.
Lagbots have been taken down so far by means of automatically being booted from servers if too many commands are issued (currently the only way to do this is by means of using scripts ).
Streamers seen to finally be able to play the game without chances of getting DDoS during their stream.
The only content added to the game has been Tournament Medals as of August 2018

TF's Birthday went by (August 24th). The team completely forgot to acknowledge this, futher

The actual banner was almost offensively off-kilter so I did a completely new one that I whipped up in ~10 minutes
How appropriate that today, on TF2's 11th birthday we get a new FP thread and FUCK ALL else.
I think tf2 is becoming that kid whose birthday is near christmas or some holiday and the parents just go “this one’s your birthday gift and your christmas gift!”
@The Jill , rate this post informative if the TF team is working on anything major
Does continuing to rake in market revenue and key sales and using it to fund a hearthstone ripoff count as “major”?
I can't see us getting less than the previous few Halloween updates considering the Contracts system should super streamline their ability to recycle old events, and there's still years worth of cosmetics/maps to draw from. No new Valve map but everything returning as normal.
This could be one of the biggest updates, not for us, but for the outside world. TF2 is a fairly old game, imagine how the press or other gaming hubs will react when a Major Update for TF2 comes on its 11th anniversary. If it ends being horrible, they will claim that "TF2 is dead" and this could be another setback to the game. If it ends being good, they' will claim its one of the most impressive feats in gaming.
Not every game can survive for this long and still keep a somewhat active developer and playerbase.
there appears to be a new exploit involving kritzing a charged Frontier Justice, where even after the medic unlatches, engineer still have full crits on pistol and wrench by himself for a considerable amount of time (~8 seconds?)
i haven't really invested any time in this but I suspect there is decent potential here
the comment section for every new article about a tf2 major update is usually people saying "I stopped playing after hats" or "lol its 2018 play overwatch"
I don't think it'll make that much of a difference
also, since it's so late in the day- roughly 9:30 PM at Valve when I'm writing this- I doubt we're getting an anniversary update
Good point, but here's my counterargument: People only look at the headlines to generate an opinion. If they see "tf2 update is good, no dead game" they'll think the game is alive and healthy.
/s
But you're right, most people comment about how "lol hats" the game turned after X update. Guess I tried to see a somewhat brighter side to the game outside its playerbase or small community. I know TF2 will not achieve the same amount of sucess of profit as others FPS on the market, but the game still keeps going despise everything. You can't kill something this good without fucking it up hard.
This is exactly why I'm perfectly content to let TF2 "die" after the Heavy Update.
It's had an amazing run and I've accepted years ago that we're never gonna get back to that early 2010's era of "multiple multi-class updates a year with new weapons, maps, and game modes" ever again.
Put out a bigass Heavy Update as a last hurrah, then just pop in every few months to drop off some hats and maps from the Workshop alongside the occasional bug fix or balance tweak. Remember to turn on Halloween mode each October and I'll be a happy camper.
I've been playing TF2 for the better part of a decade because it's a fun-ass game. I didn't log nearly 3000 hours into the thing because I assumed it'd last forever.
It's easy to let it die when you have other games to play. I wish my tastes and standards weren't so limited.
I'm tired of seeing people freaking out about "End of Support!!" Or "No Update in X months, game dead!" every few pages.
As if Valve was dropping game-changing updates each month ever since launch. We've always had lackluster updates! and it's all the same! Tons of hats, maps that nobody will play after the update, a small list consisiting of mostly meh/bad balance changes and few bug fixes that nobody cares about except trolls.
Updates only attract those few thousand players out there who already found their new main game to play.
Veterans and people who truely like the game for what it is, will continue to play the game long after it's """death""".
TF2 will always have it's audience, because it's so great at what it offers that no other game in the genre has surpassed it in terms of Quality, while also being FREE.
So, get yourself a cup of coffee or tea if that's your thing, and jump into a map/gamemode you haven't played in a while. I'm sure you will have --fun--, after all, that's what we are all here for.
"DDOS protection for valve servers and other improvements are rumored to come"
Just like last OP; This protection is already active.
Oh hey our subforum is gone
Why is that? Newpunch baddery?
Not just ours; but everyones.
Let's make a thread about it. Actually let's make a thread about everything because this is seemingly what is the best for this reddit rip-o - I mean forum.
Are you sure it's active? The server browser can't find any valve servers when I press "refresh all", but valve servers that I played on in the past are still visible in the history tab.
If facepunch dies we'll just move into discord.
Can you verify this with any actual official source?
....?
I am talking about DDos protection. What does this statement have to do with that?
I certainly can't given they never talked about it, they being the TF Team.
Given however that streamers have stopped getting DDos'd over the course of the few months and that by simply snooping around a bit in that scum's discord servers with a throwaway shows them publicly talking that they can't do it anymore.
I'd argue it's safe to assume that this protection is active, no?
The DDOS protection valve presented at GDC is supposed to hide the game server's ip by forcing the client to connect through a relay server.
Then we must be talking past eachother - I assumed the DDOS protection the OP was talking about was an external thing.
Well, what we can assume is that SOME kind of DDOS protection is active. Clearly it doesn't seem to be the one they presented - yet.
Man, the other day a small family came to my register, and as I was ringing them up, this little kid (no older than 10) recognized Medic off my shirt.
"Hey, that's Medic! Do you play TF2?"
"I used to!"
"Yeah... I used to play too." (He literally turned away and frowned for a second.) "I used to play Soldier. I wish they would update the game."
"Yeah, me too."
"All my friends play Fortnite and it's not fun."
"Yeah, I'm not big on that game."
[silence as he continues to frown about TF2 and I ring up products]
And that's about when I finished up the transaction, but it was the weirdest and saddest heart to heart with a little kid at my job.

let's talk about this thing for a sec
the redeploy amount did not deserve the be nerfed.
let's consider the following :
giving up shotgun, gunboats and conch for this?
it costs 40 hp per use
your attacks are mangled by fall-off even if you somehow land direct hits on a Y axis
leagues will keep it banned anyway / there'll be mutual accords to not use it even after the nerf
some items are just unsalvageable for leagues and that's how it is, no matter how perfectly balanced the item is
balancing things for comp that are too powerful for pubs makes sense, however balancing things that's already mediocre for pubs is ... silly?
Is it ever any worthwhile outside of places like hightower? I don't think so. it was a mediocre item even with the redeploy and even with the burn hovering.
Valve doesn't care if the core concept of an item is unfit for competitive, they'll still nerf it.
well no it was nerfed specifically due to comp complaints/videos
That's what I mean, the core of the item unintentionally or not makes you harder to hit, nothing they could done except a total rework can get it unbanned.
Trust me, it isn't even worthwhile on Hightower.
A bit of an update about the current state of Facepunch:
Megathreads are back, subforums are dead. for all purposes, this is the TF2 one until anything else changes this. I don't know if the post limit is still 999, but if anything happens just make a new thread and thats all.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
