"peace is a slippery slope to the end of the american empire"
"we might even have to try and justify our budget even more then!"
Fuck! We can't have peace breaking out.
>Canadian Lieutenant-General Wayne Eyre said North Korea’s push for such a declaration could be a ploy to divide the U.S.-South Korea alliance and secure the withdrawal of the 28,500 U.S. troops based in the South.
“You have to question why North Korea is pushing so hard for that end-of-war declaration,” he told an event at Washington’s Carnegie Institute for International Peace.
Oh get fucked, the North Koreans are looking to drag themselves out of the nightmare they have found themselves in. They are not gonna sneak into Seoul waving peaceflags and unify Korea overnight. Just leave the two to kiss and make up.
I'd rather have peace tbh.
Honestly, if people are this blood thirsty, how bout' we focus on combining our efforts and conquering the stars?
War is peace
I don't have enough of a grasp of the international politics here to know whether a war end declaration is the way to go, but I can certainly say that I don't think NK's actions here are from a place of genuine good faith. This is not the first time NK has feigned a desire for peace only to go right back to the same shit when they have what they want.
I'd much rather see the Korean war ending with the end of North Korea
Or bring back amphitheatres?
more like without a continuing military threat the UN and US could pull back while North Korea just waits for the right moment to invade. They haven't rapidly demilitarized themselves or even given up their nukes.
North Korea is a snake in the grass
First of all, the US is never going to withdraw troops from SK. Secondly, NK is not going to offensively attack SK. They would get crushed and they know it. An attempt at peace is better than no peace, especially with Trump in office.
ya but north korea's goal is a one korea two state system so they get the economy of the south and get to keep their godking and feudal kingdom in the north.
And they're going to accomplish that how? South Korea's military budget is like five times larger than the North's and that's without American support. They're poor as fuck because almost nobody trades with them. They know they can't win and if they did think they actually had a chance they'd already be in Seoul. They've been posturing like this ever since the ceasefire. In either case, decrying peace talks is ridiculously stupid. Are we supposed to re-escalate tensions and risk war or what?
Depends on what you value: peace, or freedom. We can have peace with North Korea, at the cost of the freedom of the people of North Korea. It's unlikely that, if North Korea is allowed a two-state solution, they would give up the grip they have on their people, since a stronger economy would only bolster the legitimacy of the North Korean government.
Then again, we've had peace with North Korea for 60 years. The Korean war hasn't started back up again, and there's been a handful of spats with them since the 1970s
its not that its realistic, hong kong and Taiwan are two great counter examples to two rule one state systems, but that's what they want since it would all but ensure the kim's permanent rule with a strong economy flowing in from the south. I don't have time right now to track the source of where I read this though.
As much as I agree, the only way that would happen would be an actual war.
It's a multi-faceted conversation when it comes to what actual peace means with North Korea. It's irritating when people look at the article and make a parody of it because they hate the current administration. Regardless of what you think of America's role in the war, North Korea are still a dictatorial state that is intent on causing trouble, possibly catastrophic. This also means they are capable of expanding their sphere of influence onto South Korea. To ignore that is to be entirely ignorant of the history of North Korea and the war.
I really hope that the Trump administration and UN Command will not end the war without demanding any severe concessions.
