"Every Republican thinks they are going to win Pennsylvania, but I got it. I’d use an expression, you know there’s an expression, but under the rules of Me Too I’m not allowed to use that expression anymore, I can’t do it,” Trump said. “It’s the ‘person’ that got away.”
The phrase the president was likely referencing was the Frank Sinatra song title, “The Gal That Got Away,” his cover of “The Man That Got Away” from the 1954 film “A Star Is Born.”
When someone in the audience shouted for the president to use the words anyway, Trump said: “I would do it except for these people up there,” pointing to the media. “There is an expression, but we’ll change the expression. Pennsylvania was always the ‘person’ that got away.”
Continuing the war against the media like usual.
Can't tell if I want the media to just stop giving him the coverage he loves so much, or if they should continue to follow him around like paparazzi
Whats with the misleading topic title?
"Trump tells supporters at rally that he can't be misogynistic due to #metoo" implies something way different from "Trump Tells Supporters At Rally That #MeToo Keeps Him From Saying What He Wants "
What is reading between the lines? There's not really very many ways to interpret what he said other than what the headline claims.
Nobody's keping you from saying what you want, Donny. You just found an excuse to discredit #metoo and make your inbred supporters hate this movement and by extent feminism and women rights even more.
Not surprising for a sex offender who nominates other sex offenders to the supreme court, really.
Taken in slightly different subtext, it could be implying that he cannot be called a misogynist because of #metoo (ie handwaving/protectionism) rather than the presence of #metoo scaring him into trying to keep his misogyny to himself (ie being disallowed).
In my eyes, they're fairly similar statements, but I understand there's some nuance between the two sentences.
The resemblance is uncanny, i dunno why i added the circles tho.

I was expecting him to say something very stupid by trump standards. Instead I got something only mildly stupid by trump standards.
That's progress, i guess?
I think that actually being factual and not having some kind of neutrality and normalcy bias in this insane post-2016 world is important. For example if Trump said "the Earth is flat" then we'd see headlines saying "Trump claims the Earth is flat" rather than "Trump is wrong about the shape of the Earth". That is to say, news networks don't know how to treat straight up liars and outward creeps in this new world. They treat every viewpoint like it's valid, and every insane line crossing moment as if it's normal. I think part of it is also the whole 24/7 news network for profit thing, they're always dialed up to 11, so they can't ever really demonstrate the scale of events. Kids locked in cages and sexual offenders as SCOTUS is the same as any other news day because every news day has to be world ending.
tl;dr I am in favour of people unpacking Trump's statements for headlines.
Idk man, implying the only thing stopping you from being a piece of shit is a camera/movement and not your shitty beliefs, is kinda terrible. Especially when you're attacking said things for stopping you.
Somebody's seen The Newsroom!
I just realised I copied my exact example from that show... well, either way I agree with Sorkin's point.
So, is he trying to shit on the MeToo# by making vapid claims that he can’t say what he wants because the media might call him out on it?
What a prick.
I'm a very mild trump supporter (obviously) despite my heavy libertarian leanings but even I like to sit back and laugh when he does something bum-fuck stupid. Him being all new-Yorker and 'clever' with his rhetoric like this is barely news, compared to if he were to say "I am Donald trump and because of #metoo I can't be mysogonistic!"
Ok new title because you cant read between the lines:
"Trump attacks media for reporting on his shitty opinions"
I too can act dumb all day and not see what hes trying to say, or any of the alt-right rhetoric is trying to say with "the sjws/media is preventing me from being a shitty person without repercussions". Seriously, it was mostly a joke title with reading into what he believes.
