• Rust Issues for over a year!

So i'm pretty much ready to call it a day with Rust, I can say I've tried everything and I don't know what more I can do. My main issue is the fps drops/spikes and poor fps as a whole, also I've noticed ingame and after I leave the game, one of my CPU cores stay pinned to 100% usage. This is the only game I've had a problem with, I have friends running this game on lower-spec builds with 100fps, no drops same graphics settings etc... I've spent hours tweeking settings in Rust/nVIDIA/PC, following tutorials, reinstalling, moving SSD, SLI on/off, XMP on/off, Custom OC on CPU and GPU, stock CPU and GPU settings, fresh install of windows, driver updates/rollbacks, low-pop/high-pop servers, forum posts and submit a support ticket, I did everything. And still nope. Specs: CPU: [i9-7900X] GPU: [GTX 1080Ti x2 SLI] RAM: [32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR4 3000MHz] MoBo: [ROG STRIX X299-E GAMING] SSD: [Samsung 850 Pro 250gb] SSD2: [Kingston 120gb] HDD: [4TB WD Red] HDD2: [1TB WD Black] Power Supply: [CORSAIR 1000W RMx] Liquid Cooling: [CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 240] Case: [Corsair 460x] Video of said drops/spikes, this happenes all the bloody time I've contacted Facepunch and just got told "wait for the preformance update" and when that didn't do anything I was told I'll hear from a dev, that was a month ago and still no word. plshelp x
Newer machines will have more trouble with optimization than older machines. Just saying...
Why ?
Think about what the game specs were four years ago. Think about what they are now. Huge difference
I know what the game specs were four years ago (as I was playing on an even older pc than now) and have updated my computer a bit since then, But that does not mean that high end pc's would have more optimisation problems than older ones, They would have more memory/gpu memory/faster CPU's and the drivers would be up to date. The main problem with people playing Rust (now) is that they are trying to play on older machines, Laptops with low specs and not much memory. Four20 has a great machine and should not have the problems he is having, the only thing I can think of is that his internet connection is crap which be unusual as the UK has generally better internet than Australia. He might have to replace his modem but apart from that I cannot understand why he is having problems with the game.
either multi-core use might not be enabled, or that something goofey might be going on with the rust ram allocation by the computer. I'd lean more towards the multi-core thing as with 32GB of ram you would need to be running quite a bit of things before that becomes an issue. It could also be a thing with the pair of 1080's running SLI. You could try switching to just a single card, as I know SLI can be an issue with some games. As for the dev response @Orkel if you could follow up on that it would be appreciated.
Make a new ticket at support and we'll see why the previous one slipped the devs' eyes. I'm not a developer myself so I don't know why it's happening with such a powerful computer.
Yeah, I've tried turning off cores thinking Unity/The game had a strange conflit with 10 cores but even when just running them on the 2 boosted cores @4.7Ghz, no bueno. I've tried both 1080ti's as single cards and same thing, adding the 2nd card really has no change. I did get a follow up from Errn but it was kinda a copy paste reply... I think my main worry is the core locking up, it sometime swaps the core it locks up but 100% of the time one of them gets locked up. I'm more than happy to strap my PC to my motorcycle and riding to Facepunch Studios and let you guys poke the PC a few times over a weekend if it helps.. Indeed it's not the internet, I'm on good fiber, in London Thanks for taking the time to reply guys, @Orkel should I open another ticket after the reply I got from Errn?
@Alistair , @Helk any ideas about the game locking up one of the cores? nothing I try at all is fixing this
The high single core usage is likely related to Unity (the game engine Rust runs on) which heavily favors strong single thread CPUs. We're continually trying to reduce CPU bottlenecks when and where possible and with future Unity updates which will help multi thread performance. These spikes may well be "normal" but it's hard to say from your video without enabling "perf 9" from the F1 console menu.
Thank you for replying Alistair, heres a video with perf 9.
