Instead of this all or nothing approach why don't we break up the main fourms we have now with subfourms?
General could be shit like chat, meta, help, ect.
Videos need their own fourm though.
Developers would need the basics like modelling, mapping, programming, web, sound, tools, probably more.
I don't see why the prototypes we killed off, that's Garry's call though.
Porn was completely killed buy being dumped in the shit post area, not that it was overly popular but still could of gone to at least the gold section in a subfourm
And this wouldn't be the final solution, we could keep a eye on the content that is posted and if one type is more active or expansive then we can make a new subfourm to make it more readily available and easy to find.
The main take away is that we should all be co-existing in this ecosystem and if something is growing then let's take care of it see where it goes instead of forcing it to be one of 2 ways.
I do agree. Subforums were not a bad idea, they were however too specific. Having subforums for, say video/entertainment threads in General discussion would make things easier to browse. Same with developer stuff, dividing that in stuff like modelling, mapping and programming (include web here) would benefit the developer section as well.
Still reckon that Sensationalist Headlines and Polidicks ought to be merged. It seems rather arbitrary that they are separate forums.
I reckon that getting rid of subforums was a good idea. Most of them barely received any posts outside of megathreads. Eg I tried to liven up automotive addicts, but no one wanted to play along. Although I dislike how so many things were merged into General Discussion. General Discussion should be renamed to Communities and be a place for nationality megathreads, hobby megathreads etc, and we should get Fast Threads back, so communities aren’t buried under pages of shit.
Let's say there was only one thread in a tabletop section after a month for example, or general games had lots of people discussing PlayStation shit. Then let's do a little shift and remove tabletop and make a PlayStation subsection, so we can use that cool fourm sorting tool and people who don't own or have interest in PlayStation can just hide it.
I feel like this should just be fourm maintenance.
You don't leave your lawn to become a jungle and get frustrated by it and the neighbors complaining then take a flamethrower and torch it. You should cut the lawn occasionally, throw out that fucking ornament your cousin gave you that hasn't seen sunlight in years, maybe protect that little tree growing on the side from the weeds.
As nice as it would be to not do lawn work and let it do it's thing, it doesn't always work like that.
Subfourms and megathreads should be looked at on the fly and given the tools and encouragement to grow and shrink as needed.
we spent a long time fighting for them to be seperated
news threads were just full of US politics. It was useless
I keep adding ideas to the op as we go, just as the fourms should me adjusted as time goes
As a addition to this the "Gmod Section" should also be divided up again, there's some artwork by quite talented people being mixed in with things such as Ammo Help and i cant run Garry's Mod, even it as a subforum in the "Gmod" Section would be preferable to the current state, even if only for the sake of people who actually need help with gmod being mixed up with the Screenshots section (Half of the people who use this use SFM but that's a entirely different and small issue comparatively)
I figured since @Hezzy said he had some days off this week I figured I'd bump this for discussion or at least for him to see.
I'd also like to apologize for any aggressive tone as I was going through shit and then saw Garry took the infinity gauntlet to the fourms
I agree with you as much as I'm annoyed by the "fourms" misspelling.
So a lot
For fuck sakes, misspell it once and your phone decides it's the new correct spelling.
I'm all for periodic change, which I think we've had plenty of. Polidix is on the lax side of moderation these days but it's way past the Tudd era when it needed containment.
I think we want what's best for moderation and polidix is relatively small, I'm curious whether it would stand to scrutiny in facepunch at large if we tried to dilute it into another subforum.
Definetly keep pdix out of SH, otherwise sensationalist headlines will get slid off the page by Trump threads. That's why they were separated.
