are they actually doing elusive targets again? easily the worst part of hitman since they're limited time only.
They pulled them off pretty well in the end for Hitman 2016 though? Why wouldn't they make a return?
The limited time thing is a bit shit if you are busy but it's kinda part of what sets them apart from the rest of the (virtually unlimited amount of) hits in the game. And it's not like there's not going to be one waiting for you when you do get around to starting the game up.
I'd like to be able to access all the content in the game I paid for, not be arbitrarily locked out because I wasn't able to play at a certain point, or fucked it up.
It just punishes people, it's not a good system.
You know full well what you get, and don't get, by purchasing the game. It's not like they're saying "Play 20+ additional elusive target missions" and not mentioning the fact that there's a timer and a one attempt only clause. Again, it's the fucking point of the mode.
If you feel like you're being cheated then just don't purchase the game.
I guess I may as wells ask here since I don't know where else to ask: I've always wanted to get into Hitman games, is there an order I should play in? Release order?
And I think it's a dumb "fucking point" of a mode that's the antithesis to the rest of the game's design and philosophy that punishes players who either: don't jump on-board early enough, or don't spend every day paying attention to the game in case there's an elusive contract that comes up. It's dumb and I wish they would have gotten rid of it for the sequel because it was hands down the worst part of the first game.
Looking at the trivia section about et's on the hitman wiki:
The tenth elusive target also was available for a whole week. The reason is possibly found from the official forum; a user had to leave the town for work-related reasons September 16, which meant he/she would have missed his/her 10th ET. After a brief discussion, a moderator commented that he'll ask the team if there was anything they could do.
it's literally the most arbitrary thing I've ever seen. It's an awful, unrewarding system.
unless your Sharp then everyone else dies around you

i mean the story really doesn’t matter much to be honest so you don’t need to play em in any order.
i reccomend starting with Blood Money, and then just going to the the two new ones.
Hitman: Blood Money and Hitman 2016 are the best in the series. The ones before Blood Money are really unfriendly to get into. Hitman: Absolution is the worst because of how linear and restricting it is.
Contracts is pretty accessible, but Blood Money or 2016 are probably better starting points
Hitman: Codename 47 is a clunky as fuck third person shooter that doesn't know how to be a stealth game but desperately wants to be one. I'd say skip it.
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is a good stealth game with some obtuse rules for scoring and hyper paranoid guards. Worth playing but a bit old, so know what you're in for.
Hitman Contracts is a semi-remake of the first game with the second game's gameplay. It takes half the missions from the first game and makes them work and adds on a bunch of new levels too. Worth playing like the second game, but still clunky.
Hitman Blood Money is the game most people considered the best of the series until Hitman™ came out, and it's fairly split now. Controls much better than the previous games but is just as in depth. A very good starting point IMO.
Hitman Absolution is a very linear game with a heavier focus on action. It's equivalent to Splinter Cell Conviction in gameplay and tone, more action focused but somehow worse controls than the last game.
Hitman™ is the latest in the series (obviously) and is focused heavily on large maps with a lot of features. It loses the benefits of some of the more scripted levels Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman Contracts had, but it nails the open levels better than all the others (though Marrakesh is a bit boring).
Start with Hitman Blood Money or Hitman™, they're the most approachable games in the series and they show off the best elements of the gameplay. The story isn't super important, don't worry about it.
Thanks everyone. The series has been sitting in my steam library for forever and I'm def gonna start playing em now
It's exactly why I didn't purchase the game.
Sounds like you made the right choice. Good job.
Seems like the better way to go about it would be to have. Each elusive target playable whenever, but you can only do it once. And then maybe also have an automatically generated daily challenge.
Or have a Cooldown period for the ET if you fail.
In general I don't like the idea or missing out on content if I buy the game later.
Why would you have to wait a year? There's a constant rotation. You would just have a different starting point than people who had the game straight away.
But why the wait? Just have them queued up as they release, you can still have it have just one attempt.
it's ridiculous, i don't always have the time to play video games. why should I be locked out of the content because I have real life shit to do?
I agree tbh. I love Hitman but I hate the idea of timed targets. It is stupid, pointless and only serves as a big middle finger to people who don't play the game religiously every waking hour of their lives.
The original concept of ETs also meant that players buying the game at any point after release lost out on contracts and unlockable outfits permanently too. Thankfully IO managed to backpedal on that and the targets are repeated periodically, though you can only complete them once, which as you say is really stupid for a series built on replayability.
This is all beside the fact that thus far, ETs have usually been mediocre at best and painfully bad at worst. There have only been a select few enjoyable missions anyway, and most are just the target patrolling a route with a small entourage. There's also nothing worse than getting the kill and being compromised through a tiny error or a glitch that permanently costs you a Silent Assassin rating.
Feels like those incentives MMOs use to keep people coming back, which is really strange to put into a singleplayer game. But really, unless you buy the gold edition you're already missing out on content
"People who wanna be able to play and replay ET's on their own time are babies"
That's basically what you just said.

Oh thank you morsdood. Clearly you have opened our eyes. The fact that IO Interactive continues to drop money into this system that only incentivizes sacrificing the silent assassin rank for a guaranteed kill or go risky in very poorly designed missions that you only get one shot at for only ten days a year (roughly). Just bought the game and you don't have some of the unlocks that can really turn the tide for you depending on the certain elusive target and you know it'll take time for you to rank up through the various levels? Too bad cause according your logic the player in this scenario should just miss the opportunity completely and just mark their calendars for next year cause "lol what are you a noob assassin?" The alternative the player is forced to go through is to go into a level blind with little to no experience with the feel of the game and the level the et takes place in. and when they inevitably get spotted half way through out it's just "lol too bad just get better"

Clearly this is the most engagement a video game has managed to achieve.
I think it's a cool concept, adding a unique value to it. I suppose it shouldn't be time limited as much as just having one single attempt.
Think of it like this:
What if one of the Elusive targets ended up being some of the best content the game has seen? I can't get access to universally fun content simply because I missed a day? Or had work? Now some people have gotten access to some content that I can't get access to simply due to time of day. It's not necessarily the same; but time-gating content is a major reason time zones and related aspects are so important when it comes to live broadcasts. Imagine having to stay up until 3AM to play Hitman like it's a Network TV show...
