Wow, he really seems tired of that shit. Can't blame him, I haven't enjoyed a AC game since Black Flag.
Every time I've played an AC game since 2 I get to a certain level where I feel like I've played this before and I just get bored and stop playing. Since 2 I've been nowhere near completing one.
shhh they'll hear you
I'm tempted by the greek setting as it's one of my favourite historical settings. But I was with Black Flag as well, and I gave up with that pretty quick.
I think they rely on a lot of people buying on a 'maybe this time i'll love it' basis
I think game is quite good. Not as great as Origins but it's good.
I feel like most of the reviews bashing the grind are people who only want to play the story and do literally nothing else. Forgive me if I fail to see eye to eye on "gaming journalists" here. The quest I just finished up had a recommended level of 18. I'm currently level 27. There is a ton of optional stuff you can do which at times yes does feel like a grind but I enjoy doing it and creating my own goals and challenges which I guess is the point. The game does a good job at sucking me in and I can spend a few hours making money, exploring, or doing quests.
Yahtzee also failed to mention anything about the choices / consequences system which makes me believe he really didn't play much of the game. There's a very early choice that you can make very early on in the game which appeared again much later on and had huge game-changing consequences which was really cool.
A problem I do have with the game is Kassandra and Alexios - I feel like they are not as interesting as Bayek and Aya were. A lot of the dialogue options are also a bit pointless since most don't affect much - but there are consequences that are really cool to see play out.
Not once have I felt the need to use the in-game store. You're given legendary gear quite liberally. I've stuck with the same sword the entire game. Upgrading can be a bit of a hassle tho, but thankfully you can just buy a shit ton of resources from blacksmiths and money is incredibly easy to come by.
There were a few things removed from Origins that I quite liked - there were a ton of hunting grounds / areas that can be identified, and also trade caravans that you could attack. While you could do this with the ships, you don't get Iron or hides from them.
Overall, Origins is still the best game in the series. Odyssey falls a bit flat for me in some regard but is still up there. I would pass judgement on it myself before you trust some of these game "journalists" like Yahtzee and Jim Sterling who sensationalize the shit out of it.
and here I blindly trusted them my whole life, living under the illusion that all videogames sucked wet balls
