https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2018-midterm-election-forecast/governor/ 2018 is a really good year for gubernatorial elections, Democrats could gain between 8 and 13 governor's mansions, they can then veto gerrymandered maps after the 2020 census.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/242634/679a3c13-c486-44e7-a6ff-244e91660da5/image.png This is what's fucking depressing. Far more people governed by Democrats but far fewer states... it really sucks.
I guess but as long these possible governors won’t be hypocritical using partisan gerrymandering as Republicans now.
In most states the state legislature draws the maps, and the governor can only veto, they have no say in drawing them. Even then several states are having ballot measures this year to create independent redistricting commissions.
Do not take victory for granted. Get out there and vote!
+11 for Mills? Fuck yeah. I honestly wasn't expecting that.
Gillum with a 70% chance to win Florida. Please oh please.
Gotta make that 70% a reality by gettin' out there to vote with as many friends/relative as possible, if possible. I know I'm gonna do my part!
I donated to cordrey, I really hope he wins, dewine and our bloody red legislature will kill this state in short order with their medicare work requirements and all the rest of the gop agenda. Kasich vetoes 2/3rds of the state budget each year because they want to cut literally everything
Holy shit, I can't believe the GOP's downballot advantage is fucking dead
I can't see it. I was out and about mingling last couple nights and everyone was a fucking MAGA fuck
remember, #gerrymandering
You can't gerrymander a gubernational race lol
Doesn't apply to statewide elections, can't gerrymander a whole state
Sorry, I was also thinking about the house not just the governor
Speaking of that, here's a neat interactive tool to show how strong gerrymandering is, Democrats need 59% of the vote to get a small majority. https://www.brennancenter.org/analysis/mapping-how-gerrymandering-will-affect-2018-vote
that prediction to win more seats right at 56% shows "Scenario unlikely based on past results" that's depressing.
Racial gerrymandering is 100% illegal but the courts of all levels have avoided the question of whether purely partisan gerrymandering is bad for a long time. Good thing is six states have initiatives this year whether to create independent redistricting commissions and Democrat governors will veto bad maps after the 2020 census.
That's an interesting map. Apparently my district is one of only a handful to stay blue even at the furthest the slider goes to the right.
